Israel has no plans to kill PA Chairman Yasser Arafat, despite the government's pledge to remove him from power, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told the visiting European parliamentarians yesterday.
"I don't see any plans to kill him, although the man is responsible for the deaths of hundreds, of thousands, of mostly civilians because his strategy is a strategy of terror," Sharon told the delegation during its visit to the Knesset.
The statement was in response
to a question from Irish parliamentarian David Norris, who demanded to know how Israel could talk about executing Arafat if it is indeed, as it likes to say, the only democracy in the Middle East.
"Don't worry about our democracy," Sharon retorted. "Arafat lives, and not only is he healthy, but he is very active in organizing acts of murder against women and children."
