The Big Bear scanner guy is head Ski Patrol guy I think. I'm wondering if he is old hockey buddy from WI.

Big Bear scanner guy, if you read this, did you ever play hockey at Blue Jay? You Ski Patrol At Snow Summit? Dated the playmate? Email me if so.

Thanks for the new thread and thanks again to everyone who is doing such a great job keeping us informed. This is by far the most comprehensive source of fire news I've come across. Continued prayers and good wishes to all in need.

Remember that Dashle got some language inserted into a bill at dead of night (when rats and other slimes are about) that gave his state special dispensation to do brush removal in forests.

I seem to remember he was looking to buy some forest acerage also.

Hope the GOP give him hell on this...../don't hold your breath....sarcasm

I just heard that the town of Lake Arrowhead is literally surrounded by fire on three sides with 250 homes already lost. At the rate things are going I wouldn't be surprised that the entire town is wiped off the face of the Earth, with damage that could approach US$10 billion.

I'm not sure what feed they are running, it sounds like the old Big Bear scanner feed because it's getting some channels I don't have plugged in.

One reason I want to talk to the dude, see if he is long lost hockey bud and pick his brain for freqs.

Maybe someone in San Diego can help me with some info?

My nephew is doing Marine bootcamp there and of course his address has nothing but the PO and a street name- Midway Ave. Does anyone know which Marine base this is and if so, were they involved in evacuation?

doing okay, how bout yourself? Wind pushed it all east and north away from home here tonight.

Drizzling on the RIm now. Right at Rimforest and HEaps is where the moisture gets real bad, it ices over there 1st. Spent many rainy cold days there hunting bear.

Rain is good except it grounds the air attack up there.

Given the way the rats removed the "w" keys from fed gov't computer keyboards, I would not be surprised if the Democrats elevate damage risks just to elevate stress for the new GOP governor's team.

He would probably be at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) near downtown San Diego, very near the ocean. Except for ashfall, they've had no problems.

At Camp Pendleton, further north, where he might visit / train, there was a fire but its contained and didn't affect base operations significantly I think.

could see the glow over Highland way as I was cresting the top of Lamb's Canyon. I could also see a distant glow coming from the top of the San Gorgonio range..from Arrowhead...very eerie.

One biker actually said she thought the horses should be required to have bags for the road apples hanging off their back ends. This was a woman who has a college education and a fairly responsible job.

New York City made hansom cab drivers start doing this about a decade ago; horse diapers. You better be prepared for the bikers to try to push such a law through.

Read and weap..

Black Hills Pioneer June 24, 2003

SPEARFISH -- On Monday afternoon, Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., introduced in the Senate the "Collaborative Forest Health Act" which he co-authored with Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M. Daschle describes the bill as comprehensive national forest legislation, but said it is not meant to replace the need for locally negotiated agreements like the Black Hills Fire Prevention Agreement. The legislation, if passed, would provide $100 million annually in grants to reduce wildfire risk and restore burned areas on state, tribal, and private lands. It also excludes hazardous fuel reduction projects in high-risk fire areas from environmental review documentation and administrative appeals.

The bill would also create a $25 million insect infestation research program in cooperation with universities to continue study of the pine beetle infestation and ways to prevent its spread in the future.

Daschle faced criticism last summer for helping pass the Black Hills Fire Prevention Act since many believed more should have been done to address forest concerns throughout the country and not just in Daschle's home state.

"In South Dakota, we are fully aware that areas like the Black Hills are truly a national treasure that must be maintained for future generations to enjoy, and that means taking a balanced approach to forest management that expedites forest thinning and improves forest health," Daschle said.

Now we have our own "Black Hills" in CA can we get some of Dashle's money ....?
