After I posted, I saw someone made it a separate thread. Search on "Miami" and you can read the comments there. It moved me to tears, too.

I found it in the google archives, and a poster there commented, "her mother has turned her into a freak show and meal-ticket."

People have no concept of self-sacrifice any more. Most of us wouldn't be here if somebody hadn't lived a life of self-sacrifice of one sort or another. It just isn't in vogue in our hedonistic and "quality of life" society. That's what is sad.

Nobody starts off in life wanting these things, but they do happen to people. Getting rid of them prematurely was unheard of. I went to school with a girl who had unsuccessful brain surgery back in the early 50's. Her father brought her home in a coma and built a special bed so they could take care of her at home. Later they moved to California, and she died there about 5 years later. It was so sad, but people were really moved by their dedication to their daughter in the face of such adversity.

I couldn't find it using the search function. Maybe it's just me. The separate thread is here
