During the dark days of the Clinton presidency, Free Republic was probably the main distributor of truthful political information available anywhere. The mainstream media had simply closed off relevant points of discussion. It seemed like we were living in the old Soviet Union with the media being tightly controlled -- except for FR of course.

Thanks for reviving this!
And a big ole BTTT for everyone to read.

I remember your not so well recieved time in the Time.Com politics board in that 1998 period where you came here. It's much more fun in here, yes? ;-)

Boy, you have a terrific memory. You probably also remember a poster named Becky who insisted that Clinton never did anything wrong, and it was all a plot to get a "good" president out of office? After a while, the folks who insisted on paying attention to the facts just dismissed her latest rant as "more of the same from Beckums." LOL.
And, yes, I am delighted to have found FreeRepublic as an institution, and hundreds of fine people that I've met here -- some in person in Washington rallies and demonstrations, others just on the boards and the Net.

LOL! Yes, I remember. There were many Clinton Apologistas there. You were one of many they ganged up on and drove away to that forum's loss.
Those guys are still together as a community on EZBoards, 'After Time,' but the lack of vision thing turned them into a minor virtual community barely surviving on the momentum they built up when Time.Com still had boards.
In any event, I was delighted to find you, Ol'Professer, and a few others that I first talked to on that magasine forum. ;-)
Many interlocutors with character and class never go away, unles they get taken from us unexpectedly like Chief Negotiator and a few others were by mortality.
Anyways, good chatting with you once more. I aways enjoy your posts.

I've been reading/posting here since the summer of '98, with one health-related hiatus - picked out a new screen name when I came back. In all that time JimRob has been a class act. Better than that - if JimRob is ever accused of being a Christian - there will be plenty of evidence.

This post is so, so tremendous!
You wrote of all those possible center fuel tank problems through the years, even on the great Titanic and the Hindenburg, so I wondered if you ever heard about the possible center fuel tank explosion at the Reichstag in 1933 that led to Hitler's Enabling Act.
Laz, if you're not a professional writer, I'd be surprised.
LOL! Thanks for the real history.

I got most of the way through it, but then I fell apart at "sword control"....ROFLMAOSAOMAKB!!!!!!This wasn't too shabby either:

"When the New Amsterdam armory had the explosive accident, lots of conspiracy theories were circulated. The most reasonable explanation was that the Center Gunpowder Keg simply spontaneously exploded. Although there were 180+ witnesses that saw a flaming arrow arc into the barrel, authorities quickly discounted this improbable theory."

The whole thing was the best thing I read in years.

Thanks for the post. There are many here who don't know the history of Freerepublic. It has become an oak from an acorn (I'm not saying you're a nut, Jim)
I can honestly say that there have been days so bad for me that, if not for FreeRepublic, I would have been in a bad place now.
But God works in mysterious ways. And He works through this place, IMHO.
So THANK YOU! Jim, for allowing me to be one of the FReepers. I feel right at home here!

If events preclude Rush, Sean or Matt Drudge, no problem.
Events precluding Free Republic have not been identified.
