This is the very best kind of thread. Politics, science, religion, tinfoil theories -- all wrapped up into a nice package suitable for discussing with the boss at a family dinner.
Off topic, but has anyone here had an MRI? My 93 year-old father had one on his hip and said he'd rather die than go through that again.

I had an MRI on my neck (pinched nerve) a few years ago. It is not for the claustrophobic. You must lie still in a closed tube for, in my case, 40 minutes. The wall of the tube was no more than a few inches from my face. You do have a panic button. The Valium helped considerably.
Other than that, it is painless and just a little noisy.

I had one for a partially ruptured disk - xrays did not find it. I fell asleep. Miraculous device, if you are not claustrophobic.
