Cathryn Crawford is a student at the University of Texas. There is hope for t.u. yet. :~) Good article. I hope our spineless 'pubbie State legislators will read it and take it to heart.

Very nice piece.
A Republican can be a conservative and a conservative can be a Republican but being one does not necessarily mean you are the other.

I've always thought the disconnect was with the social conservatives vs. those who follow the libertarian view of conservatives.
Let's talk about the relationship between someone who will hopefully be teaching legal research to law students in the spring to undergraduate females. Now that's a story!

Great article, Cat. I feel FR is at a point where discussions like these really need to take place.

I've always thought the disconnect was with the social conservatives vs. those who follow the libertarian view of conservatives. Many "social conservatives" adopt the "societal rights over individual rights" philosiphy that Cathryn discusses. This is not limited to the social conservatives though. The so-called "neo-cons" are another example of this.

I'm a registered Republican. If I want to join the Conservative Party, do I have to renounce my association with the GOP? Will 20 push-ups suffice? When will my secret decoder ring arrive in the mail?

If I want to join the Conservative Party, do I have to renounce my association with the GOP? I think if you want to join the Conservative Party, you'll have to move to England.

Well, in the United States, the GOP is the conservative party. ;-)

I'll probably move to Mexico or Costa Rica.
