EU poll: Israel greatest threat to world peace
Jerusalem Post ^ | Nov. 1, 2003 | JPOST.COM STAFF

Fifty-nine percent of Europeans say that Israel is a larger threat to world peace than North Korea, Iran or Afghanistan, according to a European Commission survey of approximately 7,500 Europeans, scheduled to be made public on Monday.

Given a list of 15 countries, including Iran and North Korea, Israel was listed as the greatest threat to world peace, the Spanish daily El Pais reported.

The EU has denied allegations that it suppressed the results of the survey.

"This poll is an indication that Europeans have bought in, 'hook, line and sinker', to the vilification and demonization campaign directed against the State of Israel and her supporters by European leaders and media," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, the Wiesenthal Center's founder and dean.

"If the results of this survey are as reported, then Israel should draw the only conclusion possible - that the European Union and its members should play no role in any future peace process," Hier said.

Hier added that the poll only shows that "antisemitism is deeply embedded within European society, more then any other period since the end of WWII."

In a statement sent to the The Jerusalem Post Minister-without-Portfolio with responsibility for Jerusalem and Diaspora Affairs Natan Sharansky deplored the findings of the poll. "The fact that most Europeans view Israel as the greatest threat to world peace instead of nations that support terrorism, or dictators threatening the world with weapons of mass destruction, is further proof that behind Europe's 'political' criticism of Israel lies pure anti-Semitism," Sharansky said.

"Just as in the past when Jews were blamed for all the world's problems, today's 'enlightened' nations are doing the same to Israel," Sharansky added.

IMHO, it's Europe that is the greatest threat to world peace. They were back in World War II and they are today.

Germany was really stupid to embrace a man like Hitler who was a terrorist and he managed to spread fear and death all across Europe until the United States kicked his sorry ass. It's no different today, the terrorist are Muslims and they are embraced by Europe. They are spreading fear and death everywhere but I'm not in such a hurry to kick there sorry ass out of Europe. I think Europe needs to do it this time and I just hope that they open up there eyes before it is too late.

What do you expect from a continent that has murdered millions of Jews?

I would have expected that they have learned from their past mistakes.

And, as a minimum, the same percentage of so called "EU" citizens that will be "LEFT BEHIND"!

Maybe they meant that the Middle-East in general is a greater threat than North Korea to world peace. Which countries were in the list? How many other Middle-Eastern countries were among the 15?
Otherwise, it just doesn't make any logical sense.
I hope this isn't really the mental state of 59% of Europe.

The Europeans have embraced moral relativism. They are doomed.

History repeating itself bump.

Yep. Another Normandy landing would be tough to pull off, though. That sort of limits our options...

More evidence that the doors are closing. I believe that all Jews should leave Europe and move to Israel

Jews, who travelled as merchants with the Roman legions, started to travel to Europe 2,000 years ago... Longer than many European ethnic identities have existed. I don't see any reason to criticize Jews who decide to stay in Europe for what ever reason they think is worth it to them. This certainly will play in many peoples decisions, I'm sure, but come on... Jews who don't immediately move to Israel aren't bad people. What if they decide to move to the more prosperous, safer, and land of greater opportunity, the US? Would you mind having more doctors, scientists, lawyers, accountants (plus a bunch of commies, admittedly) moving to the US? I sure wouldn't. Would those people are bad becasue they don't move to Israel, a country they might have also never been to but a whole lot more physically dangerous than, say, Boston? I just hope you were being figurative not literal. But anyway, the Europeans have gone mentally insane. Though if you recall, they protested similarly against Reagan. (I think you are too young to remember it happening?) They were angry about nuclear missile placement in Europe, and they called him Ronny Ray Gun because of the anti ballistic missile defense system known in the media as "star wars." Lots of parallels to now. There were HUGE protests against Reagan when he visited Europe. Riots, crazy ones like we don't get in the US except in, say, LA after Rodney King.

I agree. If they choose to come to the US, that would be good too.

OK, but not the lawyers.
We have way too many lawyers already. ;^)
Other than that, anyone who wants to immigrate to the USA legally, because they wish to join our society, is welcome.
If they want to come here to screw it up, they are not welcome.
If someone yearns to breathe free, OK by me, and the lady in the harbor, to come on in the front door.If they yearn to destroy freedom, or attempt to jump line, they can stay where they are, or get kicked out when they are found.

I don't think that it was a mistake. They did it on purpose. But you are right. They have not learned.
