I've just started mailwasher and am getting used to it.Of all the links you gave above,I haven't yet tried the firewall tests or alternate browsers.

Shoot the Messenger seems to "not" apply to me because I am running Windows 98.Am I correct?

With the Windows Updates I download "direct x 9.0b" but can't seem to find or execute it.All other updates I've gotten easily.Any ideas?I'm not computer savvy and your help has been greatly appreciated.

All the other links you gave are working together very well for me,I'm really tickled with them. :)

  Are you running firewall software? It's always a good idea, even if you have a dialup connection and (gag) AOL. And if you're running a firewall, it's always a good idea to test its effectiveness with those free tests.

  Yes, I think that "Shot the Messenger" program was custom-made for Windows XP because:

  • Messenger is much more integrated into the operating system in XP than 98; and
  • Like it or not, XP is becoming more widespread than 98.

  I don't think you need to specifically need to execute DirectX -- if you have another program that needs it (typically higher-end game programs), that program will use it. Think of DirectX as a background utility.
