Bus driver in court after slapping boy who said penis

A bus driver in Montana has appeared in court for hitting a young schoolboy who kept saying "penis" on board his bus.

James Campbell, 62, received a deferred sentence in Helena's City Court after appearing on a charge of assault.

According to City Prosecutor Bob Wood, the charge was levelled against Campbell after a 12-year-old passenger on the bus he was driving reported Campbell slapped him across the head.

Wood said the dispute between Campbell and the student began when he objected to the boy loudly repeating the word "penis" despite his request to stop, says the Independent Record.

The boy's response to the bus driver's request was that "penis" isn't a derogatory word, but a scientific term.

At that point, Wood said, Campbell slapped the boy - a move that was caught by a video camera on the bus.

Several other children also witnessed the incident, he added.

The boy involved didn't require medical attention, Wood said.

If Campbell stays out of trouble for a full year, he can return to the judge to ask that the incident be wiped from his record.

If the bus driver wasn't able to concentrate on his driving because some kid was saying penis he shouldn't be driving a bus. I'm sure that there were other ways for the driver to handle this. I hope he's not still driving children around.

Well, I wouldn't have slapped the little brat if I were the driver - but make no mistake - the little smart mouth deserved it. That being said, I would allow the driver to bus my kid around with no worries.
