He must be one of those guys that watches a lot of TV and thinks 50% of car accidents result in a burning car that then explodes, and the other 50% consist of ending up overturned underwater.

Find a race driver that says seat belts are dangerous. The are when they break, for whatever reason. Of course, taht's equivalent to not wearing one. I could ask my dead high school friend who wasn't wearing one. Or my grandmother, a passenger, who broke the windshield with her head in a 20mph fender bender.
On second thought, I have nothing to offer and will stay out of this.

Get real. You are safer with a seatbelt than without. That's just simple physics. Not that they should be mandatory. That's another issue, IMHO.
But to argue that you are safer without seatbelts flies in the face of common sense, physics, and voluminuous data and experience to the contrary.
