I hope the sun's not getting ready to implode.
That would suck.

Didn't one of the Hoyles write a book about a solar flare that burned up the eastern hemisphere?

Ionizing radiation from the flare hit Earth's atmosphere soon after the explosion and caused a severe radio blackout, which radio listeners noticed across North America. Uhh .. anybody here (besides me) notice any 'radio blackouts'?
Last week Alex Jones came in just fine on shortwave, although signals on other bands and frequencies were weaker (much weaker) at times ...

Any change in the type of sun we have would suck. Or blow, depending.

And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun; and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with fierce heat; So far, all this has really succeeded in doing is satururing a few instruments on board certain environmental monitoring satellites ...
When someone want's our undivided attention (again) - I suspect it won't take instruments to detect it ...

I think the NASA should fill rockets up with ice and shoot them at the sun.

Dunno, but it happened in a short story by Larry Niven called "Inconstant Moon". I believe the modern version of Outer Limits used it, with the actor who played Mr. Keaton of (Family Ties) as the main character. Same guy doing Tremors on Sci Fi right now.
The story's pretty neat - it's nighttime over the U.S. when the moon grows impossibly bright. Most people don't raelly think about it other than to admire it, but the main character does and realizes that the only way it could possibly be happening is if there was an Earth-destroying solar flare coming at the Earth from the Sun. He goes into the whole "If you knew the Earth was to be destroyed in 12 hours would you tell anyone" kind of thing. Really good story.

All short-wave communications through the sunlit hemisphere of the Earth experienced complete blackout conditions Nope.
Not quite right - so that makes it wrong.
Who is making this stuff up anyway?
Sure, at times WWV from Boulder was quite weak on 15 with 10 MHz WWV still coming through, but, it was brief and on 10 MHz at least WWVH (Hawaii) was still coming through when Boulder took signal fades ...

Back in '91 or '92, there was a phenomenon similar to this - I was working in NYC at the time, and I remember that my Walkman had the FM channels all screwy - is this possible, or did I just dream it up?
