I love the Simpsons and I would have to put them into the Conservative column. Except for that brat Lisa...

Seriously, I have noticed a rather strong feeling against organized religion though. I don't think it's necessarily against Christianity as a whole but several episodes I've seen would make me think that way

It's the only sitcom on TV where a family is depicted regularly going to church. There's some poking of fun at religion, not vicious attacks on it.

They poke fun at most everyone. The originator of the concept (Matt Groening) is pretty far left, but he really doesn't have much to do with the show now. I'm sure more of the writers are left of center than right of center, but I don't think the show has an overwhelming lean. It's to the Left of "South Park" though.

Oh they are always making fun of Ned Flanders (a Christian) and his family, plus the preacher. I think the Simpsons are easily in the top 3 for comedy.

I always thought it was kind of sympathetic towards Christianity -- although I haven't watched it that much recently.

Lisa is simply the one who would have no heart if not a liberal when she is under 20...

I remember an episode when Homer bought the local church and turned it upside down with beer drinking, gambling, partying. Reminded me of Jesus at the Temple where he overturned the tables of the money changers.

Homer eventually came around - he does most of the time.

I predict it will not be too long before Lisa comes out of the closet.

Simpsons like most good satire pick on all sides... Whether it be showing the Springfield NRA as completely wacked out gun nuts ("And that, is how with a few simple modifications, you can turn 1 gun into 5 guns.." - Moe Sizlack) and later in the episode have them shame Homer for being completely irresponsible with his gun.

To the "A Gay president in 2084" bumper sticker from the log cabin republicans.... there response when asked about it, "Hey, we're realistic".

To the numberous jabs at Bubba... "I think that's a pretty lousy lesson" - Marge to Bill Clinton "Hey, lets face it, I'm a pretty lousy president" - Clinton back to Marge.

Or, when the statue that was supposed to be of someone else turns out to be that of Jimmy Carter, the crowd responds "Jimmy Carter? He's history's greatest monster!!" and then proceed to riot.

The perpetual mocking of fundamentalist neighbor Flanders... etc etc etc...

HOMER: Apu, I see you're not in church.

APU: Oh, but I am. I have a shrine to Ganesha, the God of worldy wisdom, locatedin the employee lounge.

HOMER: Hey, Ganesha, want a peanut?

APU: Please do not offer my God a peanut.

HOMER: No offence, Apu, but they were handing out religions you must havebeen out taking a whiz.
