Rescue California gathers signatures to repeal permits for illegal immigrants.

Rescue California, which provided paid signature gatherers in the effort to recall Gov. Gray Davis, will begin circulating petitions today to repeal a law that would allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses.

"But if the Legislature will not rescind SB 60, he will take it directly to the people," Hanretty said.

And if he waits to find out that they won't, there won't be enough time to gather the needed signatures. December 7th is coming up real soon.

After that date, it's too late -- SB60 will be the law and will go into effect 01/01/04.

The organization is teaming up with the California Republican Assembly, a conservative GOP group that launched a volunteer effort in September to repeal the law, SB 60.
