First off, the song and album he's been nominated for WERE recorded and released in the nominating period for "this" year.
Secondly, the awards are deserved and he probably would have won them even if he hadn't died. That album is astonishing.

No sarcasm intended. My exposure to this musical genre is CMT top twenty and some local stations and I haven't been exposed to any of JC's new material. I'll check it out.
But his greatest hits CD is almost burned out and I'll need to replace it :)

I have the album and it's good, but it's not spectacular. 'Unchained' back in the '90s was phenomenal and better than this one, IMO. I really think the CMA is trying to make up for screwing him over all those years he was putting out quality stuff. Kinda like Denzel winning best actor last year.
