State health officials expand hepatitis A inquiry

State officials are investigating whether additional Beaver County restaurants may be involved in the growing hepatitis A outbreak and are urging restaurants in three counties to beef up sanitation efforts and report any workers ill with flu-like symptoms.

The number of people confirmed to have contracted hepatitis A after visiting or working at the Chi-Chi's Mexican Restaurant in the Beaver Valley Mall rose to 130 Thursday. Four of the victims are employees, according to the state health department.

Hepatitis A, which is rarely fatal, is spread by infected fecal matter, usually because of poor hand washing.

Just another reason why we rarely eat out.

I've seen behavior by waitstaff in restaraunt ladies' rooms that would curl your hair. You'd think management would get a clue.
