Was he listed as AWOL? Did anyone miss him? Did I miss that in the story?

AWOLs are not major news stories and in this case it would appear rather obvious that they knew the deceased was missing. Also, I would think under the circumstances that being dead should not be considered AWOL.

Um I meant was he considered AWOL before he was found dead, not after. It may be obvious to you, but as the wife of a journalist, a line stating "He had been missing for a month/He was considered AWOL after not reporting for duty over a month ago/Officials suspected foul play when he was reported missing/Family has been heartbroken since soldier disappeared over 1 month ago/" or something along those lines would have filled in a detail missing from the story.
