It's been a long time since the sheriff Joe Arpaio has made a big news splash. He must have been suffering from publicity withdrawal syndrome.

Beach declined to comment, but told police she recently stopped working as a prostitute and planned to become a professional fisher. I suppose that's the natural next step on that career ladder.

Does this mean they're going to lock these lovely ladies up with the guys in pink underwear Sheriff Joe already has in his care?
To: Servant of the 9
Sheriff Joe must go. Headline-seeking, dem-supporting phony.
Has anyone checked the color of his underwear?

I am becoming progressively more socially moderate, every time I hear about the resources wasted and the criminal records created by these worthless arrests for nearly-meaningless non-crimes.

He was amusing at first. But now it's clear his ridiculous stunts are for his own gain.

"Beach declined to comment, but told police she recently stopped working as a prostitute and planned to become a professional fisher. " and then I read this in an earlier thread today:

Sherrif Joe definately has an ego. Since Metro Phoenix is mostly conservative so to speak socially and politically well, maybe not so politically since we recently elected Butch Napalitano for gov.(Thanks to the Callyfornia transplants).
The suburbs are predominately Mormon or conservative and it's quite strange to think maybe your neighborhood granny is hooking on the side...Especially in Sun City which is predominately well to do, old folks from around the U.S... What a hoot!

"Rather than arresting streetwalkers in downtown Phoenix, the operation went after middle and upper-class women who solicit sex from their homes, a felony offense...."
Sounds to me like targetting and arresting the particular women mentioned in the story has more of a social class issue than anything to do with morality at all. Rather than go after the 24-7 prostitutes, it is now the discreet ones being targeted.

"He said prostitution, which some consider a victimless crime, brings in issues of diseases, crime, guns, drugs and domestic violence. "
So does college and the goverment subsidizes that.

Prostitution a crime? Amazing to think that the vast majority of the Enron thieves are walking the streets as free men, but women who take money instead of dinner and a movie for mutual consensual sex are in jail. What a country...
