I know I'm giving into my more volatile Italian heritage here, but where is it written we can't be nasty, mean, vituperative, in-your-face maniacs?

Come and visit us over here at FR, Neil. .....You'll like it.

In other words, act with absolutely no class, no tact and no sense of decorum.

You lose an election? Don't be a good loser. Call the other guy a freak who bought his way into office, and tell everyone who will listen that the people the winner represents are going to be screwed for the next few years.

What would our national level of discourse look like if we all did that? A bunch of screaming, bloody harpies all trying to peck out one another's eyes does not inspire confidence amongst voters, much less make a nation look like a civilized place to be.

Sure, it'd be hilarious if John McCain just hauled off and sucker-punched whoever he loses to, next, but what kind of message is that sending? 'Vote for me or I'll pop your eyes out of your skull'?

Bleah.

J

McCain will make a run for Pres. again.

A dollar or a donut says he doesn't. By his own admission, he's too old, and, his health won't sustain another run. John is a patriot --- he'll not challenge a sitting president of his party.

I know it's impractical for opposing senators to go into a conference and say of the other, "Look, I can't stand you. You're the closest thing I've seen to a media whore, but what the heck, we have to come to some deal. Either we work it out, or we'll duke it out."

CFR strangled the Democratic Party more than any single thing

No way. The rats have hugh contributions coming in from unions, babykillers, tree huggers, rich celebrities, etc.. It's ultra-soft money. The alphabet networks just never mention it. Bush will be lucky to keep up with them monitarliy.

McCain learned years ago that the key to media adoration is to take views which the media agrees with are contrary to the Republicans. Going against your party makes a Republican a "maverick", and makes a Democrat invisible (Zell Miller).

Amen brother!

In addition: Remember how the media all of a sudden couldn't get enough of another Arizona Republican, Barry Goldwater, when he openly countered the GOP on gay rights? He became the "good" Republican that they used to cast a shadow on the rest of the party.

No way. John is a big-tent Republican. His romance with the media notwithstanding. :)

There's only one event that, God forbid, could happen that "might" prompt him to run. I can't and won't bring myself to post that event here. It is unthinkable.

In 1976 my little town in western Arkansas had a rash of murders by a couple of jerks. I was 17 (geez, I'm aging myself) and carried a gun in my car like most all of us did as these two guys were on the loose.

One night I was coming home from taking my girlfriend to her house and I saw a bunch of bullies at the pizza joint across from my house picking on my younger brother. He was outnumbered and a wimp (he's still mostly a left wing liberal to this day) so I stopped to see what was going on.

Some drunk cowboy type (probably on steroids) was going to "kick his a$$" for telling his girlfriend, a good friend of my brother, that he saw the guy making out in Ft. Smith with some other girl. She needed some prodding to dump this guy since she once told him he slapped her around sometimes.

Anyway, I try to see what is going on and all the football jocks are prodding the guy to whoop him. I myself wasn't physically capable of fighting them but I was ticked when some jerk from my class said "it's none of your business". Why it was any of his wasn't explained.

So I went to the car, pulled out my pistol, walked over to them and pointed it and said, "okay, this stops or I pick one of you and shoot". They ignored me. I fired one shot into the air and they scattered. This created a commotion loud enough that my dad looked out from across the street. He's even smaller than I am (but I wouldn't cross him) and he came over and he trashed all those kids. He threatened them and said he was calling their fathers.

Then, to make his point even better, he yelled at me for pulling out the gun in front of them all. I got grounded for two weeks. But none of those jerks ever bothered us again. Also, two of them actually tried to "attack" my dad and he kicked their butts.

The funny part is when I went to college, this same guy that started it all was an RA in my dorm. This dorm was known for it's parties and I was once up on his floor and he actually told me that me pulling the gun and my dad throwing him over his truck made him realize he was a jerk. We became pretty good friends for a couple of years.

But I'm still plotting against all those other guys in my class that were messing with us to this day. Maybe that's why we haven't had a class reunion! ;-)

But that money can't legally go for candidates, right?

Why should we be thanking McCain that billionaires can still drop tens of millions on the Democrat party, while the activities of U.S. organizations are restricted?

I don't understand. Are you saying that billionaires can give to the Democratic Party but not to the GOP?

I'm saying that a situation in which individuals can drop millions into political parties, yet the activities of U.S. citizens and organizations are restricted on the grounds that too much money negatively influences the party, is nonsensical. What did CFR accomplish?

I'm not sure how it works, but my guess is it can go to negative ads.

In an era of moral relativism, society frowns on candor, straight-talk and the truth. This is because people have become cowardly; they naturally know right from wrong they're just too chicken to admit it for fear of being labelled "intolerant." When someone throws caution to the wind and speaks the truth, these vascillators must condemn the truthspeaker because, were they to agree, they would in so doing admit their own cowardice for having not spoken up sooner; shunning the truthspeaker is the safer choice.
