SMALLER NYPD STILL HAS CRIME SHRINKING

Serious crime in the Big Apple is dropping for the 13th consecutive year despite a shrinking NYPD and the new demand to combat terrorist threats, police statistics show.

For the second consecutive year, murders should remain below 600 - and even rape, which has lately been immune to police initiatives, has finally leveled off with crime overall dropping nearly 6 percent this year.

My son's in the NYC Police Academy and they've even shrunk the class size. He's got a few lawyers and a Harvard graduate in his company (about 40 recruits). The class has about 1,450.

There's an interesting section on the reduction of NYC crime rate in the book "Tipping Point" concerning zero-tolerance of minor crimes and how this affects major crimes.
This is a terrific book, and I highly reccomend it to everyone.

Yes--the "broken window" theory of crime prevention. Started under Mayor Rudy. It works.

Rudy indeed left a good legacy on crime, as did Reagan on the economy. These guys have long lasting impacts on society.
