Schwarzenegger is planning to repeal the $4-billion car tax increase within hours of taking office something he can do by direct executive action. He is to call a special legislative session beginning Tuesday, demonstrating that he is wasting no time before getting down to work.
One of the issues he wants lawmakers to take up this week is repealing a new law that enables illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses. The measure, SB 60, was signed in the thick of the recall campaign, and Davis' critics charge that he approved it to bolster support among Latino voters. Democratic support for the law appears to be crumbling, giving Schwarzenegger every hope of fulfilling a campaign promise within days of taking office.
Looking ahead, overcoming the state's budget difficulties will prove a tougher test of Schwarzenegger's political skills as he is already discovering.

The easy part will be abolishing the car tax as soon as he takes office. For Arnold, the hard test is still to come. Rolling back spending and turning the State's fiscal condition around. Today's marked contrast to the indiffident and clueless departing Gray Davis will be the sign of a Governator going to work at once. As they say in Hollywood while preparing to take that shot, its all "Action!"

I'm betting that Rush will break all records today for the sheer number of listeners. Even the libs will be tuning in.

I sense a great disturbance in the Force. As if a billion tax-loving liberals were in pain...and suddenly silenced.

This is the day they've dreaded. Arnold will soon be Governor. I love it.

Just went on a 45 minute brisk walk with my hubbie and feel energized for this great day.
Do you think they'll pre-empt Rush at 11:OO?

Oh, wow; good question. My, that would be a tough call, any way you look at it! On the one hand, this is likely to be Rush's most-listened-to show EVER; and on the other (B) Schwarzenegger's inauguration will also be huge. And even the liberalism of the media would drive them both ways -- which Republican to "diss" the worst?
I'm betting Rush get's pre-empted a lot. Here in his adopted home-town, brain-dead Godforsaken Sacramento, KFBK has historically pre-empted Rush if a slightly larger than usual flock of geese flies overhead, so that they can provide breathless, moment-by-moment coverage. They will surely pre-empt.

Dunno, I am wondering the same thing? Personally, Rush has me for 2 hours and then I'm going to watch Arnold on TV.
Dan has to work --- he tells me he'll miss both events. :(

Yeah... but I'll be cheating by looking at the inevitable LIVE THREADs on FR. I'll also be looking forward to the text of AS' speech.
KFBK does replay Rush at night, or used to. Maybe I'll try to tape that.
In fact, I had the naughty thought of starting LIVE THREADs on both events yesterday, just so I could set a personal-best record for longest thread. I think my essay on voting for Arnie may have been it to date; there was one other longer one, and some little bitties.
