Democrats brush off fall of party's symbol

The Democrat party yesterday dismissed as a sheer accident, rather than a bad omen, the fall of the statue of Phra Mae Thoranee or Mother Earth, the party's symbol, during relocation that damaged part of the statue.
The bronze statue fell into a fish pond after a worker slipped.
A bunch of hair broke and the workers re-connected the broken part to the statue with adhesive tape.
Phra Mae Thoranee, the Hindu goddess long associated with the party, weighs around 1,000kg.
Anek Thapsuwan, an MP for Samut Sakhon who was supervising the relocation, said it was an accident and was not a ``sign'' to signify anything bad for the party.
``She probably wanted a bath, so she jumped into the pond,'' he said.
He said the bronze statue would be replaced with a marble one ordered from Chiang Rai.
A ceremony to bless the new statue will be held on Sunday. The old one will be moved to Samut Sakhon.
Chuan Leekpai, the party's chief adviser, said the accident could serve as a lesson.
``This is not a sign. It should serve to remind us that we should be aware of what we do,'' he said.

If put to a vote, I believe U.S. "Democrats" would also embrace a "mother earth Hindu goddess" as their party symbol. Though the jackass is so fitting.

From the headline, I thought Teddy "the Swimmer" Kennedy had a good night of drinking.

At first I thought that was going to be about the Demoncrat Donkey. What a hoot that would be. How can you get much lower than a donkey. All they do is bray and aren't very bright.
Now I see it is else where. Considering these folks I find it amusing that their natrually superstitious nature is suddenly removed. I'm not superstitious but for some, like these folks it is a way of life.

But, but, but....isn't a Hindu goddess a violation of separation of church and state?
