In a Battle of the Books, National Review Editor Rich Lowry, author of "Legacy, spars with Al Franken, liberal author of "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them."Noting that Franken had challenged him to a fist fight a favorite Franken ploy that provoked Bill O'Reilly to say that Franken's face already looks as if he'd been battered around a lot the more gentlemanly Lowry suggested a man-to-man literary match.
"I can, however, write," Lowry notes. "So, my counter-challenge to Franken was to have a battle of books. We would each write a piece about each other's tome. (Have I mentioned anecdotes and cartoons lately?) Franken agreed. So on the neutral site, spinsanity.com, Franken will take on Legacy and I will take on Lying Liars.
One of Lowry's more telling blows in the battle of books was his suggestion that what has made Franken's book a best-seller is "the mass-buy from the Democratic National Committee" and that it has not exhausted his chances of other mass buys from "the Democratic Senatorial Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic Governors' Association, the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Suppression of Vice, John Huang, the National Federation of Democrats Who Like Lame John Ashcroft Jokes, and the Young Democratic Club of the Upper West Side's P.S. 123.
"With this high-stakes, high-intensity, high-profile exchange, I desperately hope to get the attention of Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie. Ed, please, if you're out there do for me what Terry McAuliffe has done for Al Franken. Get in the bulk book-buying game. See Terry and raise him. Don't let the DNC out-buy you now not with a presidential election and my Amazon rating hanging in the balance. "
Obviously stung by Lowry's right hook, Franken lamely resorts to fiction by suggesting that Lowry's sales figures are buttressed by imaginary "bulk buys by Richard Mellon Scaife. Right now there are tens of thousands of copies of Legacy being fed through a wood chipper on the Scaife estate to provide mulch for its prize-winning rose gardens."
And this is a guy who writes books attacking Republicans as liars.
She did so for his financial support of the White House Preservation Society.
Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of Franken books that were bought up by Borders Books, which now make up a whole wall display at my local Borders, which remain unsold. The "Wall of Franken" recently replaced the "Wall of Hillary" which didn't sell either.
An AUTOBIOGRAPHY by Al Franken.
Within two weeks they'll be able to give Franken a beat down that will make the Rodney King affair look like a therapeutic massage.
It's a sure bet that the self-proclaimed Internet Inventor has sponsored quite a few crates of little Al's joke book along with numerous suck-ups in Terry McCauliffe's crowd.
