Well, I guess reasonable minds might see it differently. But, when I see someone taking out $9,900 (30-40 times), the only reasonable inference is that they are trying to avoid the $10,000 reporting barrier. In criminal law, they call that evidence "consciousness of guilt."

Actually, in criminal law they call that "obeying the law."

Sloth's analogy was 100% right on.

I see no humor in this story.

Intentionally driving under the posted speed is dangerous.

I repeat- Intentionally driving under the posted speed is dangerous.

To consciously drive below the posted limit is a distraction. The driver is looking down at his speedometer instead of watching traffic and pedestrians.

Driving under the speed limit intentionally slow is a major cause of accidents and should be illegal.

Besides how can he live up to his name if he drives slow?

Um, it was a joke. The speed limit thing. A joke. It was sarcastic...illustrating an absurdity. That's what makes it funny. The apples and oranges thing. You see, the concept of humor is...oh, never mind.

Why do you say that? I am amazed at the number of people who so self-righteously condemn someone in PAIN! He wasn't getting high, my friend. He certainly wasn't dropping out of society. He is a productive (and HOW) member of society and he was in PAIN. I defy anyone out there to watch someone suffer chronic pain day in and day out and then sit and moralize about the evils of (egads) prescription drugs.
This is so disgusting. Bill Clinton admitted he smoked pot! He committed perjury! Ted Kennedy was expelled from college for cheating! He drove drunk and someone DIED and then he left the scene...and on and on.
Rush is human, and Rush was hurting and who the devil are we to point fingers? There is no hypocristy here. There is merely a mob out to get someone they fear.
Remember about casting that first stone. It is apples and oranges indeed...but not the way you describe it.
And as for the bank...that has happend to me, too. The bank people specifically advised me in the past to keep a withdrawal under 10k so as to minimize paperwork and hassle.

That's not the kind of behavior I expect from a hero.

Then would the virtuous Clinton is your hero because he says he likes paying taxes? I've avoided the $10K thing a time or two myself, for no other reason than it's my business and nobody elses. This does not make me a criminal, nor does it make me any less of a hero to my kids.

Saying the act of taking less than $10k out of your account to avoid scrutiny is criminal because of "consciousness of guilt" is like saying driving below the speed limit means you are guilty of avoiding a ticket. And besides, I can see how a person like Limbaugh might use the money. Rich people sometimes are loose with their money. He does make enough to flaunt it.

What's wrong with avoiding government attention?
Nothing, unless you're doing so because you are otherwise engaging in criminal activity, and thus trying to avoid being discovered.

Sorry, but being in pain does not justify illegal behavior. I have absolutely ZERO negative feelings about Rush taking pain killers, or Rush becoming addicted. That's legal. I personally would not suffer with pain just to be stoic when there are alternatives out there.

My problem is with the illegality - using a maid to buy illegal, and unnecessary amounts. Sorry, but the simple fact is this - the amounts that he was reportedly taking were NOT necessary just to make pain bearable. There's a difference between using a legitimate amount, legally prescribed, for pain, and using amounts that have an unnecessarily pleasing (and harmful/dangerous) effect.

I'm not upset Rush had pain. I'm not upset Rush used pain killers. I'm not upset Rush became addicted. Those are all human things, understandable things. I'm upset that he broke the law, and illegally purchased them, in unsafe/illegal quantities, in an illegal and deceitful manner. I'm upset that he, apparently, engaged in purposeful, plotted behavior to try and hide the fact that he was breaking the law.

I'm able to forgive Rush. I'll stick by him, I'll keep listening. But, I have high standards for my heroes, and that type of behavior is not heroic, to me. So, yeah, Rush is still an icon, still a warrior for conservative principles (some of them at least) - but he dropped a notch in my book.

Okay, so if I decide to engage in criminal behaviour, I should notify the Federal Government, right?

One more question for you, braniac: Innocent until proven guilty? You're a lawyer. Does this ring a bell?

Rush already admitted to the use, and addiction. He has also failed to deny any of the allegations regarding his illegal use, and illegal obtaining of the drugs. In the law, that's call "admission by silence"...feel free to look it up, or if you need a "brainiac" like me to post it for you, I'm happy to do so.

Well, Braniac, you better post it then. Rush doesn't have to incriminate himself, and won't. He has not admitted to any illegalities that I've heard.

You must be smart or somthing. You must have inside information. You know stuff that even the media doesn't know.

YOU know he's guilty, therefore he's dropped a notch on your hero status scale.

Fill us in.

That's a good damn song parody! You should write the left-wingers version that discusses pro big government and one's dependence on it. With your talent I'm sure you come up with something. I have a suggestion for the title/cores: "Get Your Money For Nothing And Your Checks For Free"

I often wondered why no talk show host, to my knowledge, has done a parody with beginning lyrics to INXS’ “Listen Like Thieves”.

Critics contend that Limbaugh drove very close to the speed limit on at least 30 or 40 occasions, most likely with the deliberate intent of getting to his destination while avoiding tickets for speeding.

I thought this was the goal of all of us?????

Hello Folks. LongbowWolf here. I found this site when Rush read your post on the air today and I just now got the time to get registered to tell you thanks for the stitch in my side! It is good to be a FReeper. Sloth, your example of demonstrating absurdity by being absurd was perfectly executed and Rush must have really got a kick out of it. Thanks again for the laugh.

I looked it up and this is what I found. If you find an actual "law" that says his silence is an admission, post it. I don't believe there is such a "law"

"In a recent case, a supervisor was told by a former employee that a co-worker had said that the supervisor told the co-worker that the former employee was laid off because she had taken maternity leave. The supervisor did not respond, but remained silent in response to the accusation. In a March ruling, a federal appeals court found that the supervisor’s silence is not an “adoptive admission,” or an admission of guilt. Weston - Smith v. Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Inc., 88 FEP Cases 716 (C.A. 1, 3/12/02). Under the particular facts of the case, the court found that there might have been many reasons why the supervisor was silent about the subject, and therefore there was nothing unusual about the supervisor handling the matter as she did. That is, the supervisor could not have known what the co-worker had or had not said to the former employee. Moreover, there was no reason to think that the supervisor would know, even as to her own alleged statement, whether it was true as to the reasons for the layoff. Thus, if the supervisor had spoken out she might have been engaging in speculation about a matter over which she had no personal knowledge, the court said."

Is The Silence Admission Of Guilt?

I think Rush would fit this same situation.
