Wars have always and everywhere in US History caused an erosion of freedom.

Especially the war on poverty, the war on illiteracy, the war on drugs, and in future administrations, the war on terror. All done with noble intentions that called for us all to sacrifice freedom and/or property, and all (with the exception of the latest, the war on terror, because it's too new) have failed and in fact, only made things worse.

We don't know how many they'll have if one goes off. The people of Japan were no longer under the threat of more going off after the surrender. You have to understand that this is nothing like that was.

When it happens here, it'll be chaos like you can't imagine.

The story is very believable, the sleepers are already here. Remember people, Bubba and Arafat met over 200 times in the White House, it's obvious they were not cementing an Israeli/Palestinian peace deal in those 200 visits. Yes, charcter counts when it comes to who is running the country.

There will be other attacks here.

The question is when.

The amswer is when the anti American crowd, the environmentalists, the communists and socialists are successful in getting us to withdraw our troops from Iraq.

I did not mention the democrats because they are included each time one mentions anti-Americans, socialists and communists, environmentalists.

At the moment, they are too busy fighting us over there to concentrate on attacking us over here.

Each day every democrat politican prays to his or her gods or goddess that a nucular devise will be detonated somewhere in the Unites States. They only hope that it will not be where they are.

We are going to have fight them. We can fight them here or there.

Gen. Tommy Franks says that if the United States is hit with a weapon of mass destruction that inflicts large casualties, the Constitution will likely be discarded in favor of a military form of government.

It is not clear here whether Franks believes this would actually happen and whether he advocates or supports it.

I will say this, any officer, any member of the armed service, any government employee or any politician who would advocate this and move in support of it has violated their oath to uphold, defend and bear true allegiance to that very constitution and marked themselves as an enemy of the people.

We can survivie a WMD...we will not survive the destruction or setting aside of the Constitution.

The day any of these people and their lackeys, in their high glory and glass houses, try and do this is the day that Proposition 223 and the Rule of 307 will come into play.

Jeff

the economic dislocation would indeed be the worst part of it, for those not directly affected.

We better use them in retaliation against the islamic nations that fostered, harbored, and supported the actions against the USA.

Either directly, or indirectly by looking the other way.

they didn't surrender until after the second nuclear attack, and would not have done so had the emperor not caved or had the coup suceeded.

"Without freedom, there's nothing. When there's nothing, there's nothing left to lose. "

Well said.

WMD won't end America's freedoms, politicians will. Muslims didn't inventory WMD first and they have more to fear than we do. Solutions other than to kill the other side need to be explored before there is no turning back. If we have confidence in the ideas of America, then don't change America.

Franks is right

No, he is wrong about discarding the constitution.

No doubt it will be terrible if it happens, but we can and will survive it. We would not survive a discarding of the constitution. See my post 65.

It sounds like Franks is talking about the loss of republican government in a more permanent sense than martial law. It doesn't appear Franks expects a temporary loss of freedoms based on the posted article, but rather a new form of government going forward.

It also sounds like it scares the hell out of him, too.

The ancient Roman's, during the republic, provided for military leadership in times of crisis. They appointed a dictator (simply meaning leader, without the negative modern connotation) who ruled until the crisis passed.

And the Germans thought that they would be able to vote Hitler out of office if he got out of hand. Cincinnatus was kind enough to step down. Most dictators kinda like the job and want to hang on to it.

When you're in line getting government approiated food rations and moved to a non radiated area to live, you won't be worrying about the constitution. I promise you that.

".... that causes our population to question our own Constitution and to begin to militarize our country in order to avoid a repeat of another mass, casualty-producing event..."

I read this as to mean the citizens would bare arms to protect our country.

who do we hit? that's a problem, these attacks by proxy have deniability. the logical thing to do would be to nuke all military and weapons production targets in Pakistan, North Korea and Iran. And for it to be effective, it would have to happen within 1 hour of the attack on us. We can't sit around and debate it for 6 months.
