Schwarzenegger Appeals to Public
LA Times ^ | Nov. 21, 2003 | Joe Mathews, Evan Halper and Peter Nicholas

Posted on 11/20/2003 10:50:06 PM PST by FairOpinion

With his budget proposals already facing opposition in the Legislature, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appealed to the public Thursday, complaining on talk radio and at a rally here that the same old ideological ghosts still haunt the Capitol in Sacramento.

To balance the state budget, he said, legislative Democrats want to raise taxes and Republicans want spending cuts that are too drastic. "Have the legislators learned anything from this last election?" Schwarzenegger said on a Sacramento radio station. "If they didn't get it, there will be severe casualities come the election in March. Severe casualties come November."

"Many of them in Sacramento are saying they are against this bond, this recovery bond. You know why? Because they want to increase your taxes. ... "The politicians up there, all they know is increase the taxes when they get into trouble. What I say is: we should have this recovery bond so we don't have to increase the taxes."

"The Republicans have a choice: it is the recovery bonds, or it is raising taxes. That's a choice, it's up to them. I am only going to make cuts to a certain point. I'm not going to cut dog food for blind people."

Arnold knows exactly what he is dealing with.

" I'm not going to cut dog food for blind people."

Is there actually a Dog Food For Blind People program in Calfornia? It wouldn't suprise me if there was one.

If there were, it's just where I would start cutting.

Arnold is taking it to the people and telling them exactly what is going on, which, as you say, is the right thing to do.

Then we'll see how many legislators will be going back after the elections.

I think that statement is one of Arnold's famous lines. Its not from a movie but it sure sounds like it.

Maybe we can make a list of "Arnoldism"-s, the way we have a list of "Bushism"-s. Once we get used to them, they are kind of endearing. :)

I hope that was the whole article.

I refuse to "register" with the LA Times or any other newspaper of their ilk just to read an occasional article.

Looks like Arnold is going to have to spend a lot of time doing "fireside chats" every saturday to get the people on his side.
Unless he personally takes the time to present his side at every oppurtunity, the legislature will walk all over him.

All bonds are tax increases, sooner or later.

"The Republicans have a choice: it is the recovery bonds, or it is raising taxes. That's a choice, it's up to them. I am only going to make cuts to a certain point. I'm not going to cut dog food for blind people."

Oh, and budget-cutting Republicans do?

Noted.

As a child in Catholic grade school, I had a pain in the rump student in my class that wouldn't leave me the heck alone. I'm pretty patient, but eventually all the poking me with pencils had me go off.
He made a mistake, I moved here from Brooklyn, so I flew out of my chair and tackled this idiot to the ground. Took half the class and two nuns to get me off this jerk. (Mind you I was a good kid who never did this kind of thing before)
Ends up this jerk is now a Democrat in the California Legislature and I am proud to say that even as a child I had the good taste to lay the smack down on a future idiot Democrat.

I don't know how any one could miss dog food for blind people cause I sure as heck don't know what Arnold's referring to nor does any one else for that matter but Arnold's found a new Ally McBeal theme song for his administration if you're prepared to overlook his faux pas :

But the rally also showed how the governor's tune has changed. His campaign anthem, Twisted Sister's "We're Not Going to Take It," was ditched in favor of a new theme, "Taking Care of Business," by the Canadian rock group Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

Petitions need to be the course of action taken. Then after the people see the success, they will likely vote more Democrats out.

Democrats are a cancer growing on healthy tissue, especially here in California.

Good choice of a new theme song!

He is certainly "taking care of business" from MINUTE 1!

He wants to be in the center. He's telling the Democrats to get on board in regards to tax increases and telling Republicans he won't cut the budget as much as they would like. Gee where have we heard all this before? Its called "triangulation."

The SOB became a cop, he was an @ss then, and hearing him speak on TV I can still tell he was an @ss.

I have a far more elevated opinion of police in general, but this guy was and is a total "tool".

Is Arnold referring to funding seeing-eye dogs for blind people rather than poor people eating dog food?

I think you just translated Arnold's abridged version.
