And I say...FORGET the "Jackie Kennedy-ish style" -- Mrs. Bush has a style all her own, and it's NOT Jackie Kennedy-ish! She has absolutely nothing in common with Jackie K. -- never has / never will! She's her "own woman" with her own style/own uniqueness...and I for one, admire that immensely. Jackie Kennedy APPEARED to be a lovely woman...now doubt she was, although whenever she spoke, her "mousy voice/tone" was a bit grating on the nerves, IMHO. Mrs. Bush, though, is WHO she is within her own right...not having to emulate/nor ever emulating the style of ANY former first lady nor anyone else for that matter! (and I think she should be credited for that) -- she truly IS "her own woman!" (AND...one more thing...a woman who not only KNOWS her man...but a woman who LOVES her man just the same...and IT SHOWS! ... oh, how fortunate for him!)

Laura was a teacher and librarian and those two professions do not put up with any monkey business. She is a lady in the true sense of the word and you are right, she is her own woman. She seems to just become more beautiful every day!

Bump! Mrs. Bush has sense and taste and class, and clearly supports the best in the President. Remember he quit drinking because he knew he was doing wrong by his wife!

She looks very elegant and appropriate in these pictures ... something to strive for when I'm older and don't have to be washable all the time :-).

She's not Jackie Kennedy

- of the Kennedys I probably admire Jackie the most, difficult background (any kid of Black Jack Bouvier is going to have "issues"), a strong character who made the best of it, but Northeast Old Blood all the way.

Mrs. Bush is a quintessential Southern Lady, a horse of quite a different color. Her blood isn't particularly blue, farmers and merchants with a doctor or two along the way, but that's never been a bar to being a Southern Lady. She does have one Revolutionary Ancestor, which gives cachet.

My grandmother was the most ladylike Southern Lady you could ever have seen, and her dad was a plumber (her mom, however, was descended from the brother of a Signer. Lots of Southern blue blood comes through the distaff side.)

I got the feeling that Jackie Kennedy put on that voice ala Marilyn Monroe. Whatever it was, put on or real, it sure was annoying.

I read in...I think Newsweek right after the elections that
Mrs. Bush is Pro-"Choice." You seem to know a lot about her.
Any truth to that?

You tell it, Mean Maryjean!

Jackie couldn't hold a candle to Laura. I always wondered how a woman who was constantly betrayed by her husband could then, in later life, spend her time with a married man, visiting upon that man's wife the pain that was visited upon her. The fact that all this was carried on in public tells me reams more about Jackie than any outfit she ever wore.

I fully and heartily agree with you, MeanM. Jacki K had a faux classiness, Laura Bush is real class, the true gen.

She has a lovely, intelligent, quietly expressive air about her. Looking at her I just want to hug her.

G-d bless America and G-d bless Laura and Dubya.
