Why does this have a PETA smell to it?

"A nutrition advocacy group (sponsored by Krispy Kreme, McDonald's, Frito-Lay, Mars Candy and Wonder Bread

Actually those items contain a hell of FAT and would ALSO be eliminated in a LOW FAT complex carb diet

My dad has lost over 100lbs w/ Atkins. He eats more veggies than bacon and keeps the weight off. You're right; Atkins is stay away from sugar and simple carbs.

Driving through my rural area the other day...I have never seen so many people raising beef
Anybody with a couple acres has herefords and angus...
Most amazing thing I've seen around here in years...
I might have to get me a couple to raise...
Go Atkins...the price of beef is through the roof...

Well, I say the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine may be a haven for child molesters. When does my baseless, uninformed allegation get printed by Reuters?

The Atkins diet was debunked years ago.... its reappearance just confirms what David Hannum once said... "There's a sucker born every minute."

Plus, skinny doesn't necessarily equate to healthy.

A subsidiary benefit to the Atkins diet comes from raising the cattle. Having a couple of big, dumb, loveable brood cows around does wonders for one's physical, as well as mental, health.

Well, my wife and I went on this diet. BY THE BOOK. His book. Within one week my wife's blood pressure shot up and she ended up on blood pressure medicine for 6 months to control it. After that she was back to normal. So, this diet CAN have serious side effects. She was 36 at the time and perfectly healthy. It made me feel horrible and I was quite happy to get off it after 10 days. I would rather loose weight some other way. I only weigh 200lbs (6'1") anyway and just wanted to loose a little weight anyway.

So, you never know how someone will react to this diet.

The skinniest people on the planet are vegetarians and Asians

I've been to China, and yes, they are a nation full of slender hard bodies. You would be too if you ate mostly fish and rice and walked 10 miles every day.

They are so full of it. I just had blood work for the year and I have been on Adkins since August. My sugar has been so under control that the doctor took me off of insulin.

I doubt that I eat higher amounts of meat than when I wasn't dieting, I'm just not eating bread, potatoes, or pasta with it. Adkins on its own suppresses your appetite. My cholesterol tested better than it has in years.

:If someone developed a heart condition or clogged arteries, my best guess is that it developed over years, not over a few months of dieting, and I would look at some of those gooey delicious things you get at the bakery or the pizza parlor, rather than a couple of pork chops and a salad.

One of our local TV's ran this item in its 6pm news, but they DID - to their credit - ID the group right up front as "linked to PETA." I still gave them heck in an email this morning for simply giving such marginal critters legitimacy by reporting on them. If the media wouldn't report on these loonies, they'd go away.

Plus, skinny doesn't necessarily equate to healthy.

Tell the Air Force that. Their new fitness test has four components: A 1.5 mile run (50 points max), a 1 minute timed push up test (10 points max), a one minute timed sit up test (10 points max), and a “Body Composition” test (30 points max).

The Body Composition component measures your abdomen and gives you point points without regard to your height and will very little regard or age.

As an example a 6’ 3” 43 year old man with a waist measurement of 38 inches get a Body Composition Score of 21.6. A 5” 7” 18 year old man with a waist measurement of 38 inches get a Body Composition Score of 21.6. A 32.5 inches waist will get both 30 points, while a waist measurement in excess of 43 will get 0 points.

There was an article in our base newspaper a few weeks ago, where a medical professional was quoted as saying it didn’t matter your height, bone structure or age a 40 inch waist is a equally unhealthy. I don’t buy it.

Debunked in what way? I know plenty of folks who have lost weight on it. Many of them have kept it off. I certainly can't speak to the health consequences, but I've read plenty of arguments on both sides.

Great work. Your post is an example of one of the things that makes FR great.

Portrait of internal conflict: a PETA guy on Atkins!
