Alford's parents say Special Forces staff told them that a doctor in Kuwait found nothing
wrong with him and that a psychiatrist there had said Alford was "faking it."

I owe my life a few times over to good doctors.
But, if this story reflect truth, it just shows there are some really awful M.D.s out there.

The doctor failed to diagnose.

The Psychiatrist just isn't medically apt to diagnose rare biological diseases.

He deserved better than what he got.

You know how doctors operate in general. They look for the the most obvious answer for any medical problem. They went with psychological and got a he's faking it diagnosis and then they ran with it.

Let's face it they see a lot more crazies, and faking it crazies (even in the special forces) than they see Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

All the pay and getting his rank reinstated is just generic Army/military bs hoop jumping beauracracy that always happens.

It all combined to make terrible story.

I know how this stuff works. I had my pay records lost while they were crossing the street (boot camp to basic sonarman school) from one command to another. They would only pay me 20 bucks every two weeks for 2 months while I was in school. They said they had no idea what to pay me because they had no pay records to work with. I said "well obviously I'm at least an E1 since I just got out of boot camp so, even though I'm an E2 why don't you just pay me as an E1 and make up the difference when you find my records?" We can't do that was their answer.

I also was put on report and went before the Executive Officers Inquest for "shaking hands disrepectfully" with a Senior Chief Petty Officer and it took me threatening to demand a Special Court Martial, as was my right as an NCO, (Petty Officer in the Navy) and not on a ship at the time, under the UCMJ.

The thoughts of my chain of command having to get their dress uniforms on for this crap was just too much and they tossed it out.

Most stressful week of my life worrying about that crap.

Military doctors? Good ones are few and far between. It's the sad truth.
