Police in New York City have issued a department wide alert for officers to be on the lookout for missing explosives powerful enough to bring down a commerical jetliner.
Newsday reports that the explosive called Primasheet, vanished at New Jersey's Newark International Airport in early September.
Officials with the Port Authority originally said that the did not think terrorists had anything to do with its disappearance and that their investigation was focused on who signed the explosive in and out of the agencys training center at the Newark airport, the paper stated.
The explosives, often used for demolition projects, were last seen as a Police K-9 Unit trained bomb sniffing dogs aboard a Continental Airlines plane.
The NYPD alert describes the missing explosive as a half inch thick slab of sheets, with each sheet measuring four inches square. It goes on to say that Primasheet requires the use of a commercial or military detonator in order to function according to Newsday.
Distributed by Valley Associates in Ontario, Canada the explosive is water proof and mositure proof and can be applied in strips directly on the target.
According to the company's website the sheets and be cut to any desire shape and applied with an adhesive. The flexible sheet can be applied in strips or diamond shapes directly on the target or used to improvise linear shape changes.

"The explosives, often used for demolition projects, were last seen as a Police K-9 Unit trained bomb sniffing dogs aboard a Continental Airlines plane."
This could be avoided if when the cops signed the stuff out donuts were pasted on.

The last accounting of the material was Sept. 4, aboard the Continental plane, but officials say the disappearance was realized during an internal audit Sept. 23. Geeeze!

Why does WND have this as breaking news? The alert was issued last Monday. The explosives disappeared in Sept. There have been terrorist attacks before Turkey.
So many questions, I know. Maybe someone with more insight can help me.

Why are explosives like this being stored at an airport?
Is it me or is this just stupid?

Thanksgiving would be quite an obvious time for a terrorist event.

I saw a long strip of it layed diagnally around a concrete culvet and then detonated.
It cut the culvet all along the line

Great..Nice work NYPD...I'll be thinking of you on my 4 hour train ride to DC praying a jihadi doesn't cut the rails with this stuff! And as for a detonator, how hard are blasting caps or pull igniters to come by?

Month or two ago there was a signficant theft of explosives from a local blasting company . . . other than the standard "it does not appear that this incident is related to terrorism", there was never another word about it by law enforcement in the local press . . . my question is, who, other than terrorists, steals significant quantities of explosives?
