That 35% independent in all actuality is majority Democrat A neighbor of mine claims to be an independent .. after he found out I was a republican, it wasn't hard to tell he was a flaming liberal
Now whenever I see him, he likes to take pop shots at me about republicans

The liberal media made it a point for years to ignore the few Conservatives that dared to stand up. When Freepers met in every city across America to protest the attempted vote theft in Florida, it was a non-event that the media carefully avoided.
The worm has turned.

I'm watching it now. Nice to see a group of students so young, saying, "Hey, wait a minute." Oh, those poor, threatened, tenured, Socialist profs. I wonder what sort of grades these students will get.
I notice Ted Koppout isn't the anchor tonight. In fact, it seems like Ted Koppout is never the anchor when Nightline is interesting.

Next time he takes a pop at you, ask him if he calls himself an "independent" because he's afraid to admit he's a communist or just ashamed to admit he's a Democrat!
To: cartoonistx
LOL .. No need to do that .. it's real easy to shoot down his digs/arguments without even trying
Liberals aren't very good debaters

I thinking how many of that 35% won't call themselves dems because they think the dems don't lean far enough left?

Thanks --- I'll watch Nightline for only the third time this year. The fine young men are making their mark. A stint on Nightline is quite a coup.

Students at Wells College in central NY have publicly raised the same issue. A local panel of professors discussed it on the Syracuse PBS station last week. The consensus of the professors was that they may be liberal (MAY?) but they provide a forum for analysis of issues from all sides. Perhaps the Wells students were talking about someone else. To his credit, the moderator praised the students for putting the issue out for public discussion.
BTW, my son visited a Family Development class with his girlfriend and sent me the test paper. Here's question #10 on the quiz:
Liberals tend to:
a. Emphasize helping victims and favor more equality between men and women
b. Emphasize preserving the family and favor the continued dominance of the male-headed two parent family
Questions 1 through 9 had to do with domestic violence and child abuse.

The consensus of the professors was that they may be liberal (MAY?) but they provide a forum for analysis of issues from all sides. I have heard this several times. It seems to materialize by apologists for overt leftist indoctrination on campus whenever the issue arises. This is the "pat" response which is given, and it also usually marks the end of meaningful dialog since the apologists believe they have established the righteousness of their point of view beyond the need to listen further. Apparently the only way to break the impasse at that point is to cut off funding, accreditization, or initiate legal action.

THe young man from Dartmouth held his ground firm and was very refreshing. When the lib ABC interviewer asked what he thought about the modern day witch hunt that conservtive "watch lists" of liberal demagoging profs had created, the young man replied, and i parapharase, 'they are getting some criticism, yes, a little of their own medicine that they have not had for 30 years"
he knocked it out of the park.

I hope the young man from Dartmouth will one day seek political office, but whatever his pursuit, he'll be a smashing success.
Yeah, he really did 'knock it out of the park' and, in spades. He also managed to get the last word.
Well worth watching. Thanks again, kristinn.

A more telling stat would be to see how it distributes when students enter college and compare it to how it distributes when they leave college.
Further, the political 'Rule of Moderates' applys here - people who call themselves 'independents' or 'moderates' usually turn out to be very liberal 9 times out of 10. Why they continue with this fiction is beyond me, though.

I'm an old radical. In my college days of the late 1970's, we'd have given tit for tat with the lefties. I personally would have been happy to trash their offices, vandalize them, used sledge hammers on their cars, threaten them, I don't care.
But then, in those days, the left knew we'd fight back and didn't bother to engage in their violent tactics like today when they know most conservatives will run away to mommy.
But that's just me and I'm sure I'll get zinged for it.
