Thanks, I will do it, and maybe some kid can call home. I heard the other day that there is over 9000, wounded that we never hear about, it is only the ones that have died.
We have three from this area that have lost their lives in Iraq, and I know their families are going to have a tough time over the holidays also.

NEVER FORGET

...And now this from JOE GALLOWAY, with LOVE:

.."I spent six hours at Walter Reed Hospital a week or so ago. Signed and gave away 500 copies of...

'WE WERE SOLDIERS ONCE and YOUNG'

...We did the Doc's and Nurses and walking wounded in the auditorium. Then loaded the books on carts and went ward to ward, bed to bed, visiting those who aren't mobile.

...They all have such great attitudes, such positive outlook, in the face of terrible human tragedy.

...Young men missing both arms or both legs; blinded by IED explosions.

...They were smiling so I smiled too.

...But when I got out of there I sat down and cried for all they have given."

...Signed:..JOE GALLOWAY

***For those asking how a Civilian earned a Bronze Star Medal with Valor...

...JOE GALLOWAY would like to refer all to his BSM(V) Citation posted on his Photo Website:

Sorry, VOA. Not a link. Simply underlined ~ refers to the rest of the thread.

Would have been simpler to copy the whole message for my ping list, lol.

I wanted to thank you. Copied your "Quick guide to care package" tips and sent it off to my 'community newsletter.' 1000 or so SW Fla. residents, away from grandkids and with giving hearts, were given the info on the front page of our Dec. paper, just out today...with a holly leaf border. (^;

Please provide me with a contact name at Walter Reed's and I'll send them a "With Love and Appreciation" CD-ROM for computers, and we can now produce Video CD's that will play on most newer DVD players. With the Video CD you can pause, forward, back, etc like any DVD!

I was at Walter Reed today and can verify what Joe Galloway has said. I saw many young soldiers with artificial limbs walking around with huge smiles on their faces. I visited two soldiers who were on that Chinook that was shot down 4 weeks ago in Iraq and they lost many of their buddies. Spec. Chad Baetke and Sgt. Gerald Santos are part of FReeper mystery-ak's husband, 1st Sgt Mike's unit, they suffered severe injuries and when this stranger came to pay them a visit, they wanted to thank me, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT, I told them that myself and the entire country thanks THEM. These guys are heroes of the first order and I will never forget this visit today and I plan to go back at least once a week.

Before you retire this evening, please pray for the injured of this war, we hear very little about them, but they will have to live with these injuries for the rest of their lives and they need our prayers.

Mike

Thank you, Ronnie. Please thank Joe Galloway for telling us the truth, and for loving his and our troops.

Duly noted and shopping list prepared. We owe our soldiers so much, and they ask so little.

That's injured and wounded, not just wounded, in fact most are of the "injured" variety. Of course if you're the one with bits and pieces bruised and broken, it doesn't matter much how you got that way. Either way, they were doing it the service of their country, IOW, us.

I only make the point because some want to use the 9000 numbers to make a "quagmire" point. About 7000+ of those fall in the injured or sick category. Probably about the same as would be injured in a FX involving 150,000 troops over a several month period.

Checks should be made out to the American Red Cross.

I don't think so!

I wanted to thank you. Copied your "Quick guide to care package" tips and sent it off...

And I need to thank you for making threads accessible by doing the HTML thang.
I've got the format for that on disk someplace, but I'm just a cut-and-paste URL slob.

Everything is going well...I just hope there are 130,000 guys/gals in Iraq,
about 9,000 in Afghanistan, and all the rest in about 160 countries will either get
a card, letter, package or a least be the recipient of some "re-gifting" from a
buddy's care-package.

And I suspect a few American-made brownies, cookies, and chocolate bars
will be making their way to some local civilian children.
I remember back in the spring hearing a US soldier in Iraq saying that
the Iraqi children at least had learned some English -- "chocolate".
Well, I remember those stories about the US/Allied airmen dropping chocolates
and sweets by mini-parachute during the Berlin Airlift; who thought another generation
would be handing out goodies in an even more exotic destination like Baghdad or Kabul?
