They can't break their training. Pavlov's dog is ever a WHITE dog. BLACK dogs ALWAYS respond to the bell. Oh, there's PLENTY of trained WHITE dogs too. Maybe most. But Us WHITE dogs, one in ten of us is capable of breaking training, and among the BLACK dogs, geeesh, but it seems you can't find one in ten thousand who will be independent.
So you get a jake Jackson and his dysfunctional fam, why they just run over and ring that bell as loud as possible.
Speaking of Pavlovian training and Jackson's family, I suspect Jackson's own preferences spring from his unhappy experiences with his family.
