To: new cruelty
While the concept BEHIND segways might prove to have some really cool uses, the thing itself is retarted. It's somewhat faster than walking, but slower than a bike. It's heavy and awkward. And it's expensive. No wonder it's a dismal failure.

Why would someone waste five grand on a Segway when they could take the subway to work and buy an old car for the 5g's?

I agree, the segway as a product is goofy, but the concept will yield many cool uses.

I can only imagine the reason, but I suspect it is because some people are willing to spend any amount of money to be a part of something new and different be it a cell phone-pda, a plasma tv, or a segway.
