Posted on 12/01/2003 3:19:24 PM PST by ElkGroveDan

The California State Assembly is presently debating the repeal of SB 60 (SB 1XXX, Oller), the measure which gave drivers licenses to illegal aliens has already passed the State Senate, and late last week it passed the Assembly Transportation Committee. It is expected to pass the full Assembly, and after that it goes to the Governor for his signature.

After this passes you might want to call Senator Oller's office and thank him for authoring the repeal of this bad bill (916) 445-5788. Or else email him at senator.oller@sen.ca.gov

Seems there is nothing to debate. No illegals should have driver's since they should not even be in this country.

Why should we thank him for taking away the satisfaction of repealing this via referendum and giving the rascals cover to come back later with a "compromise" bill with "security provisions"?

Nothing would stop them from doing that after a referendum.

California Assembly Debating Repeal of Drivers License for Illegals

Agreed. What is there to debate? If they are illegals they should be arrested, tried in night court, and deported to Mexico or where ever.

Well then you haven't watched a legislature in this day and age. Liberals will advance and advocate the nuttiest ideas you can imagine. There is almost ALWAYS a debate. And for now they control both houses in California. That their stupid law is being overturned is a historic occasion.

If you had been following the news you would know the history of this measure and how it affected the recall of the previous governor.

It's amazing and sickening that there was ever any debate about this. If we find out someone is here illegally, kick them out! Isn't hard...

Arnold should refuse to sign it and let the people vote this out once and for all.

Do you understand the legislative process in CA? This action is the same as if the referendum had been on the ballot. Whatever anyone does in the future could take place whether it was repealed by referendum or by this vote. When he signs it, it is gone.

License Law, 1st Ld-Writethru,325
URGENT

SACRAMENTO (AP) The California Assembly voted to repeal a law allowing undocumented immigrants to get driver's licenses Monday, setting the stage for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to fulfill a key campaign pledge just two weeks after taking office.

Facing widespread public opposition and a threatened March ballot initiative to kill the law, the Assembly voted 64-9 to overturn what it passed only three months ago. The Senate took similar action on Nov. 24 with a 33-0 vote.

The law which had been set to go into effect Jan. 1 would have let an estimated 2 million illegal immigrant motorists apply for driver's licenses with taxpayer identification numbers instead of Social Security numbers.

Passed in September and signed by former Gov. Gray Davis, the law aimed to end a 10-year ban on driver's licenses for California's undocumented immigrants, most from Mexico and Central America.

Schwarzenegger was expected to quickly sign the bill. Before being elected in the Oct. 7 recall election against Davis, he promised to repeal the law within his first 100 days. Immediately after being inaugurated, he called the Legislature into special session to consider it.

The new Republican governor, an immigrant himself, repeatedly criticized the law as the ``wrong way'' to handle the issue. He has promised to help legislators craft a new law with more security measures and background checks for applicants.

State lawmakers, fearing voters would overturn the law unless they took action, took just 21 hours last week to vote for the repeal in both the Senate and a key Assembly committee, sending it to the Assembly for Monday's final legislative action. AP-WS-12-01-03 1854EST

Amazing... Three Raza-Nazis voted "No"... But the other six actually surprise me. They're lefty Reds all right, but I was expecting folks like Bermudez and Calderon to vote "No" too. Of course, Chan, Dymally, Goldberg all come from about 85% Democrat districts. Heavy on illegals!

This is part one. Part two will come later when the b*stards bring it back in a different form. The fight should continue against it in any form.
