Shoot 'em in the face!

Like most who have graduated from college, I have endured many pious and pedantic secular sermons from various members of the self-appointed moral elite. From the day I set foot on campus, I was lectured on my proclivity to rape women who might or might not be saying no, the need to be tolerant of the idiosyncratic behavior of others, and, above all, to know that I, as a campus conservative, was a crypto-Nazi slavering for the chance to commit violence on others.

The incidents of politically correct left-wing campus totalitarianism are too numerous to be chronicled here. But I too have encountered the unholy trinity of left-liberal students, leftist faculty and PC administration.

As a result of some histrionic accusations of being "sexist pornographers" and sexual harassers, my friend and I were rousted from our beds by the campus Gestapo at a ridiculously early hour. My friend was dragged off in his underwear to face the university inquisitors.

It is becoming increasingly clear to more and more people that there is nothing liberating about liberalism. It is a totalitarianistic concept that would violently punishes anyone who dares to disagree with their politically correct ideas.

For anyone who attended this institution the events are unsurprising.

One hears much on this topic (I was going to say whining and hand wringing - but I'm sure to get flamed enough for this thought already)

If more conservatives would pursue academic careers, the bias on the campus' would not be what it is today. It is not the fault of the liberals that more liberals find that an acceptable career choice. It is foolish to bemoan the bias, when it is now, and always has been, an option for conservative minded people to teach in the university setting.

Just a thought.

liberals find {academia] an acceptable career choice.

Generally this is for two reasons. First, their socialist policies are anti-profit so nobody wants to hire them and second, those who can't, teach.

This PC crap has gone on since at least the late 70's-early 80's, when I attended Georgetown U. - allegedly a rabidly conservative campus, but in reality a hotbed of radical liberalism even then. I distinctly recall that the Black Student Alliance had its own frat house. Not a problem until, that is, a white acquaintance of mine tried to form a White Student Alliance. You should have heard the anguished cries of racism, etc. Speaking your mind was verboten even 20+ years ago on a "conservative" campus. It must be a nightmare now.

I have to agree with your assessment here with one exception. There's an old saying that goes like this.

"Those who can, DO. Those who can't, Teach"

I think that about sums it up as far as Liberals Vs Conservatives in "academia".

"... it is an option for conservative minded people to teach in the university setting."

This comment flies in the face of the common wisdom that: "Those that can, do; those that can't, teach."

ahhh, the oh so glib, "those who can't do, teach". What a crock.

BofT, how many interviews have you been on (on either side of the desk) when one's thoughts on profit motive come up? Especially in entry level, just out of college type of job interviews. I'm assuming (giving you credit for being smarter than that) you are attempting to be funny.

Leatherneck, if those who can't do, teach, we'd be over-run with teachers, now wouldn't we? Nearly every congress critter would have to turn to teaching (my lame attempt at humor).

Leatherneck left off the last line of that old proverb. The last line explains your observation:

Noo... I don't think we'd be overrun with teachers... For one reason.

I firmly believe in the American People. I think most of them CAN do. :)

Now this is not meant to disparage our brothers and sisters who do teach because they want to make a difference. But it has been my experience when dealing with most of the knuckleheads in the teaching profession that if they had to use their knowledge in a cash producing job that they would be as lost as a fart in a hurricane.

But that's simply my opinion

And my point is that there are plenty of conservatives who failed in the non-academic arena.

Let 'em teach.

Then we all win (fewer biz failures, more conservatives teaching the young).
