I thought they were okay until they got to #9 (#9, #9, #9...) which sounds like an urban rumor of the usual sort.

And as to kicking out the tail light, why wait until you are in the trunk (and could be drugged)? Kick it out as he puts you in the trunk (one more potential violation for a traffic stop). I know that in my car the tail light casing requires a wrench to turn 3 bolts and even then they don't turn easily. You "could" possibly break through the plastic eventually but certainly not large enough to stick a hand in there. Every car is different.

I will say that I'm a guy and even I don't feel safe sitting in some parking lots with the door unlocked (there are a number of pan handlers where I get my film developed and they do walk up to drivers). I still sort through my photos in the car after I get them but I do keep aware of who is walking near my car.

If you've got a dog with any size, especially if it looks like it has shepherd or other watchdog breeds in it, take it along with you at night, or in the day when weather permits. It's dangerous to leave a dog in a hot car.

People don't know if the dog is attack trained or not, and criminals are on the lookout for easy marks.

While the crying baby tape may just be a rumor, it has shades of a rumored guise used by child abductors...

Driving up to a kid and saying "I'm looking for my lost puppy, have you seen him?". Again this plays on good graces and people's desire to help.

High heel on the top of the foot isn't ineffective.

I'm sure it's planted the idea in some twisted peoples' minds.

Tip #3 misses the point. Never go anywhere under threat, you will just be taken to crime scene #2. People do not walk away from crime scene #2.

I recommend this very highly from personal experience.

There are numerous trained instructors everywhere even though they are not listed on the website as they are independent.

We had the lost puppy routine pulled on a member of our family several years ago. The woman was home alone in a rural area when a may drives up and tells her he is looking for his lost dog. After some general conversation, he asks for a drink of water. When she let him in, he pulled a gun on her and tied her up. When her husband came home he tied him up, too. He had learned from their general conversation that their daughter would be home from school about 3:30, so he spend his time ransacking their house. When she arrived he kidnapped her and held her for ransome. He took her several states away, but thanks to great work by the FBI she was returned home a couple of weeks later unharmed. He had a large stack of previous arrests and warrents for robbery and rape since his early teens, but he was always released by a liberal judge. He is now serving time. The judge in this case, being one of the good ones, specified that the kidnapper must come before him for any probation hearing, and said he would never grant it. This is one that will pay the full penalty.

I never let anyone I don't know into the house. Good to be cautious of strangers, if they want a glass of water, need to use the phone, out of gas...

Sad to be suspicious, but there have always been predators out there, nothing new.

The knee, while effecive, is more easily blocked or avoided, and cannot be aimed as well or repeated as quickly as the elbow. Additionally, the impact force of the elbow is greater (small surface area to high power ratio) than even the forearm. Also, the elbow strike techniques generally follow with a 'push away and run' protocol of some sort.

This is so true. There are people I know who would not be allowed in my house unless my husband was home.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune but at least no one was killed and it sounds like your relations are going to see some justice in this case. I hope that they have been able to get over the trauma of the ordeal.

I had a friend who came home to his house with his parents to find it being robbed. The crooks took a lead pipe to his head (he lived). Not to foster a "victim" mentality but there are some things that always hover in the back of your mind afterwards. I find this true even from car accidents I've been in.
