The good guys have a vested interest in keeping Osama alive. Alive in the thoughts of the faint of heart, those ready to quit if he's DOA. He's useful until the War on Terror is won.

What's new is the bad guys have also decided it's in their self interest to keep Osama alive. It keeps the mythology going and keeps recruits lining up. The romance, the money, the legend. All lies, but they're going with what works, and we're going with what works. That's how it looks to me.

I have no idea if Osama is dead or alive, or how long he's been dead, if he's dead. You?

Don't the AQ members wonder, why they haven't seen a single video of Bin Laden for at least a year and a half or so?

What does he look like now? Why doesn't he want to show himself to his troops and the West?

I'm not sure what relevance you think your response has.

1. It's debatable whether even Bin Laden ever actually referred to or thought of his organization as "Al Qaeda". Or even that it is some kind of "organization" (as opposed to loose network) in the first place.

2. The fact that "Al Qaeda" was behind 9/11 doesn't mean we have to put a spotlight on every loser who claims to be allied with "Al Qaeda" and releases some dumb-ass video.

3. There's no reason to believe that "Bin Laden" is the one who made, or produced, or released, or ordered released, this tape. There's no reason to believe that Osama Bin Laden even draws breath at this point.

4. I am not suggesting that authorities ignore such thing, of course. I am just suggesting that it shouldn't be headline-worthy news in our mass media. It gives terrorists a spotlight they don't deserve, and Al Qaeda free publicity to attract copycats and self-appointed allies.
