I'm sorry to say that I've run into whites, including some otherwise conservative whites, who consider the large number of black abortions a benfit, not a problem. Indeed, I was involved in one abortion debate here that was eventually pulled after the pro-choice person I was arguing with started talking about all the brown babies that are better off dead than living in squalor.

Conservatives do say a lot of things that are called racist but really aren't. But there are some conservatives that really are racists and I don't have much use for them, especially since some of the greatest conservative minds in the US today, including Thomas Sowell and Clarence Thomas, are black and we have people like Condi Rice that show us what skin color is no absolute barrier to success. Even blacks who don't consider themselves conservatives such as Keith Richberg and John McWhorter have made amazing contributions to the dialog about race and culture. The objective for conservatives must be to help blacks to use conservative principles to rise out of the cultural Hell that liberals have condemned them to.

False. We know that the population of those experiencing abortions is comprised entirely of wom(y)n - its composition has already been halved. The 12% number used to represent the percentage of blacks in the entire population of Americans, includes both men and women.

If blacks are experiencing 35% of all abortions performed in the US, then only female blacks (6% of the total population) are so cursed.

I'm confused too. I do know that my local Planned Parenthood is sandwiched between my neighborhood (which has a lot of black people in it) and Hofstra University, home of the Abercrombie and Fitch wannabes. Back in the day, a lot of the black girls weren't getting abortions but a lot of the white girls from school were getting them as fast as PP could do them. Last time I passed by PP, it was looking pretty run down so I'd say hardly ANYONE is going there.

no doubt the stats show that suburban white girl abortions have declined since the 70s yet black abortions from all classes have skyrocketed....and yes amongst lower class blacks, there has been a spike after welfare reform.

All races are roughly 50/50 male/female- so the same percentage applies to half of the population. If blacks are 12% of the population, then they are 12% of the female population. 100% of abortions are performed on women.

If there is a spike in abortions for black girls, it's because many are sick and tired of taking care of babies. I am meeting a lot of girls who are having abortions because they don't want to be saddled with kids,father drama, welfare,etc.

Regardless of who is having abortions, it's a sad thing all around. There are many childless couples who would love to have a baby.

The point is that if black women are the same proportion of the black population as white women are of the white population (and so on for Asians, etc.) then black women still make up 12% of all women yet 35% of all abortions, which only women have. In other words, if all races had abortions in the same proportion, you'd expect blacks to account for only 12% of all abortions. That's all they are trying to say here.

Now, if you really want to get complicated, women are more than 50% of the population (I seem to remember about 52%) and I believe the percentage for black women might be even higher but not incredibly so. That would explain some of the disparity but very little of it.

And if you really want to calculate the proportion of the black US population cursed by abortion (which is not the point of the figures cited), you'd also need to control for infertile black women, the proportion who are children and will never reach adulthood, etc. That number will be lower than 6%. But the point was to comment on the proportion of abortions by race vs. expected abortions, not the percentage of the overall population that might have an aboriton.

And when all those girls are sitting alone in an apartment in their 60s, they are really going to wish that they had those children and the father drama to deal with. Yes, I know that some women will have the children later and some will even get married but a lot of young women are buying into the idea that they don't need anyone.

Now you are speaking to an issue that is really universal. A lot of young women are being told that they don't need men, do not need to get married,etc. Wow that's a whole other thread! My mother always used to tell me that poor people have a lot of children because a poor man's riches are his children.

I have a question: Would these young black pregnant girls/women prefer to have their babies dead than have them adopted by a white family? I would love to adopt a baby of any race but when we have spoken about race among people, we hear stories that white parents are not "fit" to raise a black child; that they HAVE to have black parents. Also, that they will "turn against" their white family at puberty or so. Sigh. I wish we lived in a colorblind society.
