The Bird Was Perfect But Not For Dinner In Iraq Picture, Bush Is Holding the Centerpiece
The Washington Compost ^ | Thursday, December 4, 2003 | By Mike Allen

President Bush's Baghdad turkey was for looking, not for eating.

In the most widely published image from his Thanksgiving day trip to Baghdad, the beaming president is wearing an Army workout jacket and surrounded by soldiers as he cradles a huge platter laden with a golden-brown turkey.

My thoughts exactly.

Boy are they grasping for straws here.

I guess that is good for us

And their point is...what exactly?

They seem to imply the president "lied" somehow for holding a decorative platter of turkey.

But isn't this the same organization that defended Clinton for lying and committing perjury?

I read the article, thinking they were going to say the bird was put there just for the photo op.

But that's not what the article says. It points out that the food vendor prepares a well browned bird to grace the buffet table at every military mess. Bush just happened to pick it up.

I thought the article was balanced and factual. But the libber loonies will turn this into one of their urban myths and, VOILA!, it will become widely known that Bush was brandishing a fake turkey put there just for his hoisting.

Funny thing is, anyone watching C-SPAN could see that Bush picked-up the platter and then placed it back on the table. So where's the story?

How utterly sophmoric. Really scraping at the bottom of the barrel. Must be recent "J-school" grads running the desk over there at the Post.

They cannot seem to eek out even a measly ounce of "bad" from this huge bucket of "good" that was served up recently on the very frontlines of the War on Terror.

Heck, that's normal for most messhalls ... ah, dining facilities. They usually make up one as a centerpiece, to go along with the ice sculpture and the bins of nuts on the center table.

Heck, every year, my division commander would have his picture taken for the post newspaper in almost exactly the same pose .. and not only for Thanksgiving, but Christmas (and sometimes New Year) as well.

My thoughts exactly. He was holding the frikkin platter, not carving the turkey.

I love it. I can't wait until PETA chimes in.

So now our leaders can't even clown around for a moment if someone is there to snap a pic?

Grasping at straws, that's for sure.

I am stunned...truly stunned.

I had actually thought on Thanksgiving Day..."I wouldn't eat that turkey, no telling how long it has sat there".

PETA may not have time to chime in after the big anti-PETA ads on the tube last night. They'll be doing a lot of dodging a weaving today. Glad to see that finally coming about.

I just emailed the Compost and thanked them for stating the obvious. Did the author think that one turkey was going to feed 600 troops? I think they are trying to start turkey-gate.

I thought the article was balanced and factual.

Perhaps you should go back and read it again. Especially the piece about Nevertheless, the foray has opened new credibility questions for a White House that has dealt with issues as small as who placed the "Mission Accomplished" banner aboard the aircraft carrier Bush used to proclaim the end of major combat operations in Iraq,

Mike Allen is and always has been a pimp for the DNC.

I suggest that Mr. Allen take that "Mission Accomplished" banner and put it where the sun don't shine.

Correspondent Mark Knoller said Sunday on "CBS Evening News" that the misleading information and deception were understandable,

Not according to the NPR elites. In this thread,

they got their panties in a bunch.
