Ford Motor Co. Executive Vice President James Padilla became one of Detroit's most prominent Mexican citizens Friday, receiving his citizenship and the controversial Matricula Consular identification card.

Padilla's symbolic gesture was a bold move politically and from a business standpoint, considering his position with the world's second-largest automaker.

I just bought a new GMC pickup two weeks ago. Made in the USA by Americans.

Don't crow too loudly, GM recently donated a bunch of new Suburbans to the Nature Conservancy.

Yeah, yeah....

ALL big companies do things for all kinds of organizations. Its called advertising. If loaning a few vehicles out generates 1% more good will or 1% more in sales, it is a cost-justified business expense.

To not do business w/ a company strictly over that type of would force you to NEVER buy anything from anyone.

GM is the only American car maker that comes close to "American" built.

Alfaro Lopez is chief of the forfeiture division of the prosecutor's office

Gee, that fits. A woman who is actually a foreigner with loyalty to another country in charge of taking property away from Americans.

Why is a person who is an avowed citizen of a foreign nation allowed to prosecute the laws of the United States against us and our countrymen? She swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. She just negated that oath by swearing an oath of loyalty to another constitution, that of Mexico.

If I were in court and she asserted that she had the right to take my property, I would move for a mistrial on lack of standing. She doesn't - and cannot - represent "The People" - i.e., the citizens - of the United States.

What will American citizenship mean twenty years from now?

Right now, it means you had $29 to give to a Mexican Consular official. After you do that, you basically can do everything a U.S. citizen can.

You have made a very good point.

Lopez should not be in charge of anything. Anyone with a dual citizenship should not be paid by the American taxpayers. Let her get her money from Mexico.

I wonder, how does one say "conflict of interests" in espanol?
And how did Mexico vote on the Iraq?
How many millions of illegals pour across the border every year taking how many millions of dollars in health, education, housing & welfare?

"Have you driven a Ford lately?". I'm sorry to say I own 2 late model Fords. They will be my last.

Well that's that, no Ford autos for me. And I'd been considering a new Ford truck.
