I don't know what you were taught in catholic school, but I was taught that the jewish people (of that time) did have a say in whether Christ lived or died.

I never got that impression from any teaching in the Catholic schools. Maybe my teachers just never came at it from that angle. Sure, the crowd that condemned Jesus was made up of Jews. They were right smack dab in the middle of the Jewish homeland (and of course, Jesus himself was a Jew), so by default the crowd was naturally made up of mostly Jews.

However, the impression I walked away from the Catholic schools with was that what happened to Jesus was mostly a manifestation of God's will. It HAD to happen. There is no standing in the way of the will of God.

So, I always had the concept that in that time and place, the Jewish mob was an instrument by which God's will was carried out. So, I never thought of what the Jews did as something they should be "blamed" for. It was foreordained by God, and could have turned out no other way. It was going to happen the way it happened no matter where the rabble was located - Israel, Rome, China, or South Chicago. Had Jesus been from Hong Kong, we would be having this conversation about Chinese people today, instead of Jews.

As a result of all of this, Mr. Foxman's grandstanding seems more than a bit odd to me. However, I do see what you are saying. But I still don't think Mr. Foxman should be so bent out of shape about it.
