[history]
In New York. Among criminals - over cigarettes.
Or, more to the point, among smugglers - over bootlegged cigarettes.
That's right: Mayor Bloomberg and his friends in Albany have managed to spur a brand-new crime war - involving turf battles over bootlegged smokes.

How much more escalation will it take before they come to their senses and ditch the tax? It won't happen until the streets run red with blood, and only then when the people have had enough and vote these tax-and-spend idiots out of power.

This is nothing but good for business. It's good for politicians because now they can stand on a soapbox and rant about how they're going to do something to fix a problem that, by the way, they created. It's good for cops, prostitutors, lawyers, judges, jailers, parole officers, and social workers because it's guaranteed job security. I suggest we just cut to the chase and make breathing illegal, tattoo a serial number on everybody's arms, and just lock up everybody except cops, prostitutors, lawyers, judges, jailers, parole officers, and social workers. Slave labor camps are the ultimate extension of the socialist mentality, why continue the charade?

It's quite easy to control this, just allow warrantless searches for untaxed cigarettes, and if some are found, a threat of an outrageous charge will surely retrieve the name of the "pusher".
Then we can seize the "pushers" house, car, cash, and anything else not nailed down, all without needing to convict or even charge them of a crime.
Nobody should complain about this, after all it's for the children.

Of course. The success of the Drug War should be followed to ratchet up penalties for illegal cigarette traffickers and consumers alike. Zero tolerance will eliminate the problem. And if it doesn't, and least we can say we are trying. After all, murder still occurs, but we haven't given up prosecuting that, have we?

Yes it is.
Now who was it that said, "The solution to the violence is to legalize marijuana and tax it, just like we do with cigarettes."
(Hint: His initials are No King but Jesus, among others)
