The RINOs are fighting us tooth and nail. They are more afraid of us than they are of the Democrats. In NY they are using every dirty trick in the book to stymie the conservatives in the GOP at every turn. They have grasped control of the state party here, so it is very hard to maintain a conservative presence within the party. If the RINOs are not in control in your state, don't let it happen. Once they grab the party apparatus it is all over. We are still fighting here but it is ten times harder. An excellent point! I grew up in New Jersey which once was a Republican state. The RINOs have screwed that up so bad it is now considered a Democrat state. RINOs dont realize that there me-too-ism ends up destroying the need for republicans at all. A real tragedy.
It is why I keep repeating it: Support Pat Toomey and defeat Arlen Specter in PA. We can win this and send a message that RINOs do not belong in our party. Why abandon the majority party and let the moderates run it? Stay and fight and win so the party is a conservative party.

Principles, morals, personal views and conscience are the only things that make one have anything to do with the other. Those things are important to how we live our lives and they should be used by our elected officials to run the government. But in the political realm, common sense has to play an important part. See the example at the end of Post #519.

Common sense trumps all of those. Politics is a dirty business, and sometimes principles have to be compromised. Sometimes transparency is one of them.

Politics is dirty business...Politicians are like poets and taxi drivers: They make their own rules and regulations, they follow no existing laws and conventions, and they operate within their own set of parameters as defined by them at any given time.

Yup... At times I'm reminded of an old SNL routine with John Belushi.

Then I shouldn't feel guilty if I lie to them about who I'll vote for, and why.

Only big name blacks, like Jackson & Sharpton, have any influence over them. The common non conservative/moderate black has no influence. That is what I meant. Of course a big name is going to have influence over any party, but the common man does not.

Good idea. Send letters to all the parties and tell the why you will or will not vote for them.

Hey, Moron, if you want to vote for Dean, go for it. The moderator asked everyone to stop the personal attacks.
Bush is no Conservative, and neither is this administration.
When you don't consider Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, and John Ashcroft to be conservative enough I don't think it is worth discussing the issue with you any more.

Okay. So we agree that it takes hard work and smart work to win.
How do we channel the conservative movement energy from ineffective to effective? Compare it to sports.
Some see us as fans in the stands cheering on our favorite team. I see us as players on the field. And when I see us players on the field yelling at our own running back because he isn't perfect, I think maybe we should be out blocking for our teammate. If us players aren't playing our best, who are we to criticize our teammates.
Of course, I do urge people to carefully choose which team to play for. It isn't just two teams in the league. There's many teams in each division.
To: spintreebob
We ARE players, and it matters mightily which members of our team we put on the field. There are many tactical moves that are not philosophically pure and which expose us to criticism, but without which the bad guys win. And sometimes, for all the best of motives, we and our team do dumb things. That's life, unfortunately.

RINOs are essentially trying to have it both ways. They want to have their own selfish causes but still be classified as part of the virtuous party. They are like practicing homosexuals who want to be full communicants in the Catholic Church. Like those who shout NIMBY but are protected by the politically incorrect activism of others. Like those who yell about how terrible Bush is while they sit on their fat a$$es in safety, enjoying a nice meal in a restaurant.
