I wish I had the fix for this. Actually, I know the fix, I wish I could apply it. I'm trapped as well. I fully want to quit all of this gift exchange -the way it is today. I've reduced my spending to minimal. Each child gets A gift -an inexpensive gift, practical. (no children of my own) Once when I was 14 I got a set of bed sheets for my bed from an Aunt. I'm sure I was disappointed -but that very gift taught me which gifts give enjoyment all year long. Magazine subscriptions, the like... Thinking the other idea would be to turn off the tv.

I have a Shiite Muslim friend who celebrates Christmas as (as he puts it) and "economic holiday", but he doesn't seem to have a problem with calling it "Christmas". Neither did an (Asian) Indian I used to work with.

I'm NOT a Christian, but I celebrate Christmas. My parents didn't celebrate it as "Jesus' birthday" but as a secular holiday, and they called it CHRISTMAS.

It's more than just a religious celebration. It's part of our culture. our nasty, white European, oppressor majority culture that so many socialists cannot stand.

I agree that all christians should celebrate Christmas

Why should they? Many Christians don't.

And how does that change the celebration called "Christmas" that westerners have celebrated every December 25th going back more than a millennium? Does that somehow make it a less legitimate part of our heritage and culture?

Others might say Happy Hannukah, or Kwaanza, or whatever other holiday they celebrate at this time of year.

I hope they do!

Once when I was 14 I got a set of bed sheets for my bed from an Aunt.

Best gift I ever got was a set of high thread count bedsheets. I felt like I was swaddled in silk every night when I went to bed.

Actually I've never hear of any Buddhist holiday. I would assume the birth of Siddharta Gautama (Buddha) would be at least one...

I'm happy...

..I'm celebrating CHRISTMAS ....

..Our church choir is happy....

..They're singing in a CHRISTMAS contata!

I buy...and get Christmas presents...

..but I know the real meaning of Christmas is the Christ child.

Thanks for the article....definitely my pet peeve too!

No wonder George Washington attacked the British at Trenton during the winter holiday Dec 26, 1776! They were celebrating a stramge thing called Christmas!

If we're agreed that Christmas derives from "traditions of men", then is it possible that devotion to it might divert us from keeping the commandments of God? Is it not written that "YOUR new moons and YOUR appointed feasts my soul hateth...?" (Isaiah 1:14). See also 1 John 5:2,3.

Possibly, but it doesn't matter to me. I celebrate the day as part of our culture.
