JUDICIAL JIHAD Judge rules Islamic education OK in California classrooms Dismisses suit opposing requirement students recite Quran, pray to Allah

Requiring seventh-grade students to pretend they're Muslims, wear Islamic garb, memorize verses from the Quran, pray to Allah and even to play "jihad games" in California public schools has been legally upheld by a federal judge, who has dismissed a highly publicized lawsuit brought by several Christian students and their parents.

As WND reported in July of last year, the suit was filed by the Thomas More Law Center against the Byron Union School District and various school officials to stop the use of the "Islam simulation" materials and methods used in the Excelsior Elementary School in Byron, Calif.

In her 22-page ruling announced Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton said Excelsior is not indoctrinating students about Islam when it requires them to adopt Muslim names and pray to Allah as part of a history and geography class, but rather is just teaching them about the Muslim religion.

When WorldNetDaily first reported the story in January 2002 – shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks committed by 19 Islamist terrorists – major controversy ensued nationwide.

The World History and Geography class in question is part of a curriculum being taught to seventh-graders all over the state, and is included in the state's curriculum standards required by the state board of education. Although the standards outline what subjects should be taught and will be included in state assessment tests, they don't mandate how they're to be taught.

In the three-week course, Excelsior teacher Brooke Carlin had students assume Islamic names, recite prayers in class, memorize and recite verses from the Quran, and had them simulate Ramadan fasting by going without something for a day. The final test required students to critique Muslim culture.

The Islam simulations at Excelsior are outlined in the state-adopted textbook "Across the Centuries," published by Houghton Mifflin, which prompts students to imagine they are Islamic soldiers and Muslims on a Mecca pilgrimage. The lawsuit also alleges students were encouraged to use such phrases in their speech as "Allah Akbar," which is Arabic for "God is great," and were required to fast during lunch period to simulate fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Nevertheless, the judge ruled the program was devoid of "any devotional or religious intent," and as therefore educational, not religious in nature.

'Double standard' decried

However, Richard Thompson, chief counsel for Thomas More, points to what he calls an obvious double standard.

"While public schools prohibit Christian students from reading the Bible, praying, displaying the Ten Commandments, and even mentioning the word 'God,' students in California are being indoctrinated into the religion of Islam," he told WND on filing the lawsuit. "Public schools would never tolerate teaching Christianity in this way. Just imagine the ACLU’s outcry if students were told that they had to pray the Lord's Prayer, memorize the Ten Commandments, use such phrases as 'Jesus is the Messiah,' and fast during Lent," he added.

According to Thompson, "Although it is constitutional for public schools to have an instructional program about comparative religion or teach about religion and utilize religious books such as the Bible in courses about our history and culture, the Byron Union School District crossed way over the constitutional line when it coerced impressionable 12-year-olds to engage in particular religious rituals and worship, simulated or not."

However, Byron Superintendent Peggy Green defended the program: "Dressing up in costume, role-playing and simulation games are all used to stimulate class discussion and are common teaching practices used in other subjects as well."

And Excelsior Principal Nancie Castro maintained, "At no point do we teach or endorse religion; we teach about religions' impact from a historical context. .. This is the state-approved curriculum, using state-adopted textbooks and has been part of the instructional program in California for over a decade."

Appealing to the 9th Circuit?

Yesterday, Thompson told WND that his legal team believed from the start that, regardless of who won the first round, this case would go to appeal – and that is exactly where he wants it to go. With some irony, Thompson points out that the appeal would go to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

"This is the court that said, in the 'Under God' Pledge case, that the mere expression 'One nation under God' [recited in a public school] violates the Constitution," said Thompson. "It will be very interesting to see how they deal with this Byron School District case where students are basically required to become Muslims for three weeks!"

While the Thomas More Law Center is intent on appealing the case, it is awaiting word from the plaintiffs as to their intent.

Wonder what they would do if we required kids to "simulate" the lives of the Jewish kids in Nazi Germany for a week??? Or maybe to imitate Christian life for a week (what a concept!) Maybe chant "Jesus is Lord" over lunches for a week.. think?

Forcing them to pray to Allah isn't indoctrination? I wish I lived in a state where I could turn a Democratic Senate seat Republican next year.

Let's also simulate America's ongoing impoverishment, which occurs every day at the hands of a government and Federal Reserve "bank" that is printing fake money. No need to do anything special on those days of simulation: just revel in your own dwindling buying power, our voting population's unexplainable passivity in the face of this *crime*, and the exodus of jobs overseas to places not yet flooded with fake dollars. Have a happy day simulating and celebrating our situation, America. If anybody needs a "dollar" for a party whistle, maybe someone can hand them a "Federal Reserve Note". Or are 5 of them required (yet?). LOL.

That is what you get for allowing the government to educate your children. Should the government be a primary interpeter and defacto censor for the interpetation of history, philosophy, theology, culture, art, music, human nature, psychology, sociology and anthropology. If you ever raised a child, or you care about your own freedom demand that the republican party support school vouchers.

I am not watching the Sat. morning financial shows. But, if they are calling attention to the unconstitutional criminality of what the Federal Reserve Bank does, so much the better.

We are complicit in allowing the Federal Reserve to operate. Their money is like a drug, creating false prosperity and a sense of security (e.g., rising real estate prices, over the long term). But, the net effect is still impoverishment, as ill health is the net effect of drug abuse.

Just say no to this central banking cartel, which has bought off both political parties. They are ripping is off, like no invading army every did or could.

Forcing them to pray to Allah isn't indoctrination?

It is conditioning, plain and simple.

This is the tip of the iceberg, my friend.

A teacher told me about a conditioning tool used in public schools that is equally as shocking- 'Visualization', a powerful mind control tool with children, is used to 'place' all the kids in a class room on a deserted island. They are then convinced that they will all DIE if they act independently. The teacher then puts in place a communist system on the island... and VOILA, utopia is achieved and the kids get excited. At the end, the communist ideology is then reinforced.

This is a crime, considering 'team work' is not the point. Indoctrination is the point. But 99% of parents cannot see it. The teacher I know is open in their desire to teach kids the communist ideology, thru conditioning.

Cap/independence=Die
Communism=Live

Sick stuff. All wrapped in a moral, practical package for kids.

A mention of the Federal Reserve Bank is apropos on this thread, for the following reason:

People who support the financial system's status quo would like the public's attention to focus on collateral issues -- terrorism, abortion, prayer in schools, cultural diversity -- just so keep voters' attention away from the wholesale sellout of our nation's currency, courtesy of Congress and the Federal Reserve.

So, getting FR and the country excited about Moslem cultural influences in public schools is just another example of how conservatives and right-thinking people can get distracted by side issues. Look at the big drain pipe on your net worth, called taxation for inflation-caused capital gains, which is sucking the life blood out of your children's financial future. THAT'S worth getting excited about.

There is no inflation? That's because inflation hits different sectors at different times. We have had enormous real estate inflation in the Bay Area. There was also salary inflation. The fake money shows up in different sectors, and is perceived as "rising value". But in fact, it is just the new money making its presence felt, as higher prices.

Whether your customers / clientele have more money to spend is not the issue. I can buy/sell an inflating asset in a timely way, realize a profit, and spend the money. That is what most people do to "profit". They are not participating in a process of adding value to the economy, only playing footsie with the powers that cause inflation and, in the larger sense, are ripping us all off.

You are right to get excited about any religious favoritism in the public schools.

However, the schools' very purpose is to channel the public's focus and energy into areas that the government considers good. They would LIKE Jews, Christians and Moslems to fight over cultural symbols, so long as the financial status quo remains, and they can continue to rip us off. I trust you have a lot of money, it's not denominated in dollars, and you don't care whether your children live in perpetual debt in a socialist state, made poorer by its corrupt and unconstitutional financial system. We're going there; hope you enjoy the ride.

Bull, Ignoring the agenda of Bolsheviks, is like handing the keys to the vault to robbers and thieves, the same types that attacked us on 9-11 and Pearl Harbor.

The agenda is to strip the country of all value, and leave only the root of all evil, Money.

It is evil and wrong to make children even pretend that Islam might even be true, for it is one of the biggest lies ever perpetrated, and it makes the bible a lie! God forbid that this evil is taught in public schools. Our nation is under attacks from Islam all over this world. What else will it take to wake Americans up?

Do me a favor and don't start a reply with "Bull." I am being courteous, and expect the same.

You are right to be concerned with values.

But, many of the things people (conservatives, liberals) are concerned about are not central issues to the health of our country. That is my point. I have made it. The financial system's health is the central issue. If you engage me in debate about that, the exchange will continue. Enjoy your day.

My point is that the hijacking of a country comes when the values and traditions are thrown out because everyone is focused on the money.

The Bull, is a point maker, so do not take it personally,
the point has been made, on my view as well!
