Chiraq "delighted" at Saddam's arrest

PARIS (Reuters) - French President Jacques Chirac says he is delighted at the arrest of Saddam Hussein by U.S.-led forces in Iraq and believes it will clear the way for Iraqis to rule Iraq.

"The president is delighted at the arrest of Saddam Hussein. This is a major event which should strongly contribute to the democratisation and the stabilisation of Iraq and allow the Iraqis to once more be masters of their destiny in a sovereign Iraq," Chirac said in remarks transmitted by telephone by his spokeswoman Catherine Colonna.

Chirac strongly opposed the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and the issue has been a source of friction with Washington.

I suspect some of those EU countries, in particular France, are scared to death over what may be revealed during future interrogations with SH. Improper arms sales, business deals, aiding and abetting. They would do well to drop this whole unfair reconstruction contract distribution business.

An excellent cartoon summing it up! What continues to amaze me is that a$$holes like John Kerry, just interviewed on tv, are out there saying: "Oh, let's put this all behind us and kiss and make up with France and Germany and Russia. Let them have part of the reconstruction efforts." -- my own words but fairly accurate.

Kerry needs a reality check. It was American lives and those of some allies that were sacrified in behalf of the Iraqis. No Germans, no French, no Russian troops (screw all of these countries). Make up? No way. I'll not spend a dime of U.S. currency on products made by any of them or travel there. And, I hope Americans have a long memory about this.

I hope that when Saddem "sings," we get more info about the contributions France, Germany and Russia made to his regime!
