Putting a damper on any happiness by Iraqis about Saddam Husseins capture, during ABCs prime time special on Sunday night, Peter Jennings declared that theres not a good deal for Iraqis to be happy about at the moment. Life is still very chaotic, beset by violence in many cases, huge shortages. In some respects, Iraqis keep telling us life is not as stable for them as it was when Saddam Hussein was in power.
Earlier, Jennings, who spent the day flying to New York from Los Angeles, opened Sundays World News Tonight by emphasizing how Hussein had once been a U.S. ally: After ten months hunting him, in the end the man who has gone from American ally to American nemesis, surrendered without a fight.
During ABCs 8pm EST special, Saddam Hussein: Captured, Martin Seemungal in Baghdad relayed how many Iraqis were joyous at learning of Husseins capture, but others were more muted. He suggested a reason why: This muted response is really shock, that he went down without a fight. In fact, some people are that while theyre happy he was captured, theyre disappointed because theyre disappointed that the man who terrorized them for so many years went down without a fight. They feel cheated. Theyre essentially saying that it would have been much better, they would have been happier to see him fight because it would have justified the fear that they had for him for these so many years.
Without explaining his personal contact with Iraqis during the day, Jennings asserted: On the other hand Martin, as people have suggested to us today, theres not a good deal for Iraqis to be happy about at the moment. Life is still very chaotic, beset by violence in many cases, huge shortages. In some respects, Iraqis keep telling us life is not as stable for them as it was when Saddam Hussein was in power. Is that a factor today?
Seemungal agreed that many suffer from power outages and water shortages, but see Husseins capture as a turning point for things getting better.
Its stability over freedom for Jennings.

Dear Pete,
Unless you've lived under the terror of Saddam Hussein as a citizen of Iraq, I don't believe you have the right to state that Iraqi people have nothing to celebrate. Obviously you missed the interviews and pictures from AROUND THE WORLD of Iraqi people celebrating at the announcement of Saddam's capture. Please do us a favor and go back to Canada, have a Coke and a smile and shut the f*ck up.

Petah is a whiner! I just don't understand the point of view that we should not have removed him. I think there are a bunch of Iraqis wha are alive today that might no be had Saddam still been runing the place. I just don't understand!

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd sure prefer the constant threat of capture, torture, and death to having the electricity going on and off all the time.

OT, but does anyone have any clips of the reactions of Jennings, Rather, et al, when they had to announce on election night of 1994 that the Democrats had lost both the House and Senate? I remember watching it live with some friends and we all howled with laughter when we saw that.

Another example of the U.S. allowing Canada to dump their garbage on this side of the border. This guy is an idiot, I can't figure out why he still is on the air.

Obviously our commie Canadian has similar views to his ex-girlfriend, Hanan Ashrawi, thefat, camel-nosed PLO hag.

Saddam provided stability to Iraq in a similar way Hitler provided stability to France. There were French people who actually were happier under Hitler rule than after they were freed. Leave it to the media to seek out these people.

Is that a factor today? Does this guy live on the dark side of the moon? There is an article in The American Spectator by (some Vietnam Vet with credibility) who gave a very down to earth and good assessment of Iraq. It is a much more upbeat and positive view compared to these doom-and-gloomers like Ji-Ji Jennings (Ji-Ji is slang Chinese for uh, membership in manhood). He mentioned that all the TV's are tuned to Fox News, not ABC with Ji-Ji Jennings.

Folks expect too much from Peter Jennings...
Folks need to lower expectations.
1. He's a poorly educated Canadian.
2. He had a sexual relationship with the second ugliest Palestinian...
3. His narcissistic personality, prevents being loyal to anything but his image.
Get real folks --- he's a certifiable asshole.
