Seems like an odd use of analogy. The movie "Red Dawn", after all, pitted a small group of insurgents fighting valiantly against the people who invaded their country...
The equation doesn't work very well here, considering that the roles of invader and insurgent are sort of switched around from the movie scenario.

The good guys versus bad guys analogy still works.
The movie probably inspired some of these guys to defend America and join the military.

Well when the movie came out it really annoyed the lefties, so that part is appropriate. >:)
