I actually think this entire conversation is moot, since the huge "assumption" is that government should be in the business of education.

The question about whether or not "under God" should be in our pledge is no different from whether some government agency should come into our home and either "spank" or "not spank" our children. It's none of their business. Similarly, it's none of the government's business how we discipline (also known as "educate") our children.

So, basically, I don't care about the government's "take" on the pledge. I suppose I'm an exception also, in that my wife and I will ABSOLUTELY NOT delegate the education of my soon-to-be-newborn daughter to the government. We'll "home school" as many call it.

I don't have any children yet, but my wife and I also plan to home educate. If more parents did their duty instead of surrendering it to the state, there would be little reason to care about pledges or prayers in government schools.

True. Before even considering the way the pledge is said in the government propaganda centers, we must a priori remember that there should be no government schools.

That said, I assure you that the schools are only poor propaganda centers. The government never COULD do an A-1 job at much of anything, could it? The great majority of persons whom I know with public school diplomas are unaffected by the propaganda. One's family, if involved, is a much greater source of one's general viewpoint. I know that is the case with me. I went to Catholic schools, and while I appreciate the education I got, I am by no means of one mind with the Catholic Church on, say, the death penalty.
