Look for Tim Pawlenty as a longshot darkhorse.

If he's President, you just may see Arne as "Secretary of the Department of Jibba Jabba and Gobbledygook".

Dan, the one SDI defense we have against Hillary is that nobody comes out of the Senate to win the Presidency.

Presidents come from the Governor ranks. That's the only scary peril of Dean.

My bold, baseless, tasteless, meritless reckless weekly Arneriffic prediction? Arnold Schwarzenegger COULD be the 2008 Prez. Look for a 2006 Constitutional Amendment.

Yes. The GOP could do a lot worse than to cultivate Rick Perry for a National post.

The way I see it there's only one problem with your scenario and it may simply be with your choice of using the label "hardcore" to describe Rudy. Based on his stance on abortion, I don't think you can rightly describe Rudy as a "hardcore" conservative.

I am sorry I wasn't clear. I said Rove & Co. would engineer that the talking head speculation would be that it would be a 'hardcore' conservative who could alienate more people than win over.

Then the nominee would be someone who clearly isn't a hardcore conservative, Rudy. This would short-circuit any of that talk (which would steal attention from the Dem primaries and time leading up to the convention). I agree with you - Rudy is no hardcore conservative. He is conservative enough, though, and has a wide appeal, and also is an excellent choice to run the next phases of the War on Terror (2008 and beyond).

I don't think Cheney will be asked to step aside, publically anyway.

I think he steps down for health reasons, as you say. Further, just because he isn't VP doesn't mean he is not in the administration. He will remain in the admin in 2005-2008.

[Bush/Rudy] would guarantee victory in '04 and Rudy would win in '08.

I completely agree.

I think John McCain, Jeb Bush, Rick Perry, Condoleezza Rice, George Pataki and Bill Frist may be candidates.

W. has proven a disappointment on the domestic spending front, and the shackles of big government will in time bring down this country just as surely as a thousand 911s, just as surely as big government ran the Weimar Republic, the British Empire, and the Soviet Union into the ground.

Which of these candidates is to the right of W.?

Stop being a Democrat, stop using racial politics.

Play politics as they lay - racial/sexual politics are the weapon of the DemoRats, take away their race card with someone who actually has qualifications (unlike the tokens the Rats use) and we'll win.

Just because I admire Ms. Rice and see the political value in her being black and female, a double 'quota' whammy, does not make my thinking like a DemoRat.

W is already working to smooth the way for Jeb Bush as the only one who can beat Hitlery.

That's the only plausible explanation I can think of for the illegal amnesty. It will benefit Hispanics the most, and Jeb Bush's wife would be the first Hispanic First Lady...

What if Powell vacated sec. of state, and Condi took over? The result would be executive experience and a track record invaluable for a run in 2008. Interesting if Hillary ran against Condi. Hilary's accomplished absolutely nothing on her own, while Condi's achievements are incredible.

"Does no one care about abortion or domestic policy?!"

Shut up - Ridge is a moderate and Condi is a black woman - So enjoy your GOP Electoral Gruel because Condi is BLACK and that's all that matters!!! (sarcasm/)

"Condi Rice isn't. She's pro-AA, pro-abortion, and other than that no one knows her positions on anything else."

Not only that - she's Pro Terrorstinian (aka Palestinian) AND since she's pro Affirmative Action I GUARANTEE YOU she is weak on Illegal Immigration.

Contrast that with Bill Owens who rejected the Matricular Consular card in Colorado AND he banned In-State tuition for Illegal Immigrants.

And Owens banned the Use of the Matricular Consular card, and he also banned In-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants.

Because a dynasty means its members automaticallt believe they are entitled to office, and unqualified "legacies" can be disatrous (just look at the Kennedys, for example: a more dysfunctional and vile clan I've never seen).

I think that's because Joe Kennedy (the father) was vile and dysfunctional, not because of several Kennedys winning elections. He was vile and dysfunctional long before the Kennedy clan got involved with politics. I think the bad behaviour was passed on.

Which is, of course, why Ted Kennedy cannot win an election < /sarcasm >. Of course Americans like dynasties.

I agree. Roosevelts, Kennedys, Daleys, Adamses, Gottis, Bushs, Earnhardts (...:^)...). Americans love 'em as long as they hold up to what got them to where they are. Of course some (like the Gottis and the Daleys) got to where they are through dark means. And look who leads the Dems in polls even though she isn't running, a Clinton.
